Notes: A computer simulation experiment was replicated to correct errors in an earlier paper and to compare seven individual item forecasting models across five different demand patterns. Results confirm previous findings that the better forecasting model depends upon the demand pattern and the forecast horizon, as well as the noise level. Nevertheless, exponential double smoothing emerged as the most robust model.

Notes: An analysis of the digitising units attached to stereoplotting instruments reveals four main approaches to their design and construction. The first three are based on hardware, firmware and software respectively and are applied to individual units; the fourth comprises multistation, time sharing systems based on the use of a minicomputer. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are outlined. The software based approach is then described in detail, based on experiences with a system which has been implemented on an Officine Galileo Stereosimplex lie plotter and which uses a Wang 2200 desk top computer and inexpensive, widely available digital components. A large suite of highly interactive programs has been developed and three of these (the basic digitising program and those for relative and absolute orientation) are described in some detail as examples. An account of practical experiences with the system is given and the difficulties which arise in transferring programs between desk top computers are discussed. The software based digitising system is shown to be an extremely powerful, versatile and effective addition to a stereoplotting instrument.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉RésuméUne analyse des dispositifs de traitement numériques attachés aux restituteurs permet de les classer en 4 groupes. On discute avantages et inconvénients de ces solutions. On décrit la solution logiciels spécialisés d'aprés des essais faits avec un ordinateur Wang 2200 coupléà des périphériques peu coûteux, associé avec un restituteur Galileo IIc. On a mis au point un ensemble de programmes hautement interactifs dont certains sont ici décrits en détail; on fait part des difficultés rencontrées dans leur usage. Die ersten drei beruhen auf Hard- und Software und werden an Einzelgeräte angeschlossen. Der 4. Typ umfasst mehrere Messplätze, die im Time sharing-Betrieb von einem Minirechner gesteuert werden. Jedes System wird bezüglich seiner Vor- und Nachteile skizziert. Im Detail erfolgt dann eine Beschreibung eines auf Software basierenden Systems, das auf Erfahrungen beruht, die mil einem Wang 2200 Tischrechner und billigen, überall verfügbaren digitalen Komponenten gesammelt wurden. Dieses System wurde mit einem Stereokartiergerät Stereosimplex IIc von Officine Galileo gekoppelt. Es wurde eine grosse Anzahl von meist interaktiven Programmen geschrieben, von denen drei (das Hauptprogramm zur Digitalisierung und die Programme zur relativen und absoluten Orientierung) unter Angabe von Beispielen etwas im Detail beschrieben werden. Zusammenfassung der bisher vorliegenden praktischen Erfahrungen und Angabe der Schwierigkeiten, die bei der Übertragung von Programmen zwischen Tischrechnern entstehen. Es wird gezeigt, dass das auf Software beruhende Digitalisierungssystem sehr leistungsfähig und variabel ist und eine effektive Ergänzung für ein Stereokartiergerät darstellt.

Notes: The morphology and morphogenesis of the kinetofragminophoran soil ciliates, Fuscheria terricola n. sp. and Spathidium muscorum Dragesco & Dragesco-Kerneis, 1979, are described. Stained specimens (protargol) are characterized biometrically. The new species differs from the other species of the genus in its body size, body shape, number of kineties, length of extrusomes, and habitat. Both species have telokinetal stomatogenesis, which commences with a proliferation of kinetosomes at those kineties which bear the brosse. Fuscheria terricola does not have a complex perioral ciliature; indeed, it might be that this species has only monokinetids. Thus only a proliferation of kinetosomes and the separation of the kineties takes place in the prospective division furrow. In contrast, S. muscorum differentiates short dikinetid kinetofragments in the region of the division furrow, which are arranged to form the perioral kinety of the opisthe in the intermediate and late stages of the stomatogenesis. The right part of the perioral kinety develops first. This and other studies show that telokinetal stomatogenesis proceeds very differently depending on the differentiation of the oral ciliature; however, detailed studies on the morphogenesis of kinetofragminophoran ciliates are still too few in number for subtypes to be defined.

Notes: Abstract Late Archaean orthogneisses and aluminous and iron-rich metasedimentary rocks intruded by anorthosite and a ferrodiorite-granite suite were completely recrystallized during Proterozoic granulite facies metamorphism. Geobarometry and geothermometry indicate P-T conditions of around 7.5kbar. 700°C, with a CO2-rich fluid phase and logfO2 at or below -16. A two-stage high-grade history of near isochemical corona growth is preserved in metasediments with the reaction cycle opx + plag + H2O → hbl+gar+SiO2→ opx+plag+H2O. End product compositions resemble those of the initial phases, and the only mobile components were SiO2 and/or H2O. The coronas reflect shortlived fluctuations in chemical activity at essentially constant P and T, contrary to simple progressive change in equilibrium parameters recorded by most corona-bearing textures.

Notes: A statistical treatment of MT data from the Pannonian Basin, Hungary, based on the distortion theory of the S-effect suggests that the local increase in crustal conductivity is connected with deep fractures.Field model measurements have recently been carried out in a shallow, quasi two-dimensional basin of well known tectonics using MT station distances of 1–3 km. The results of the investigation and numerical modelling of near surface distortions, support the idea that deep fractures (faults) contain the conducting formations. According to 2-D model computations, several conducting dykes at considerable depths can cause anomalies which are indiscernible from an anomaly due to a conducting layer. The significance of these results is discussed from the point of view of geothermal energy exploitation.

Notes: An increased proportion of ribosomes forming polyribosomes and an increased activity of polyribosomes in protein synthesis in vitro were found in dark-grown kinetin-treated cucumber cotyledons (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Monastyrski) as compared with untreated controls. The stimulation occurred also under an osmotic stress which suppressed the kinetin stimulation of the cotyledon growth, indicating an independence of the effect from the promotion of growth. Analysis of the ribosomal profiles as well as experiments with [3H]-adenosine showed that kinetin neither changed the total amount of ribosomal material nor enhanced the label incorporation into the polyribosomes. Inhibitors of transcription and of polyadenylation did not affect the kinetin stimulation of the polyribosome level. Aurin tricarboxylic acid (inhibitor of initiation) markedly suppressed the stimulatory effect of kinetin on the polyribosome formation. It is suggested that the increase in polyribosomes in response to kinetin results from the kinetin effect at the translational level by increasing the rate of initiation through an enhancement of the affinity of ribosomes for the messenger RNA.
