Notes: Abstract IfV is a variety of Ω-groups and ifG∈V then one can study the algebraG V [x] of polynomials overG andx inV. With respect to addition and substitution,G V [x] is a near-ring. Its zero-symmetric part can excellently be used to describe generated ideals. Also, we study maximal left ideals and get a general result on the structure ofG V [V].

Notes: Summary The immunological and structural changes during the heterologous phase of experimental antibasement membrane antibody mediated disease was sequentially studied in the rat following single i.v. injections of rabbit antibodies to basement membrane antigens prepared from kidney, lung and salivary gland tissues. Although each of the anti-bodies bound strongly to GBM, structural changes were initially subtle accompanied by proteinuria and hematuria. More severe structural changes related to dose and duration of the disease did not appear for several weeks.

Notes: Summary Multiple phosphoglucomutase (E.C.2.7.5.1) alleles are found in the mosquitoesMansonia crassipes andM. uniformis. The present study reveals 4Pgm alleles, of whichPgm B andPgm C are common to both species whilePgm A is present only inM. crassipes andPgm D only inM. uniformis. The frequencies in both species accord well with Hardy-Weinberg expectations. The most frequent allele is that controlling a phenotype with an intermediate electrophoretic mobility, viz.Pgm B inM. crassipes andPgm C inM. uniformis.

Notes: Abstract We study quantum mechanical systems of particles with Bose or Fermi statistics interacting via two-body potentials of positive type in thermal equilibrium. We rewrite partition functions, reduced density matrices (RDMs), and correlation functions in terms of Wiener and Gaussian functional integrals (sine-Gordon transformation). This permits us, e.g., to apply correlation inequalities. Our main results include an analysis of stability versus instability in the grand canonical ensemble and, for charge-conjugation-invariant systems, upper and lower bounds on RDMs, the existence of the thermodynamic limit of pressure, RDMs and correlation functions, an inequality comparing correlations with Fermi statistics to ones with Bose statistics, and inequalities which are important in the study of Bose-Einstein condensation and of superconductivity.

Notes: Abstract We develop a high-temperature expansion for general lattice systems which can be applied to classical as well as quantum systems. Applying the expansion we prove analyticity of correlation functions, uniqueness of equilibrium states, and cluster properties for classical and quantum lattice systems in the high-temperature region.

Notes: Abstract In this study, the determinants of residential choice, along with the intra-urban movement pattern and the frequency of residential mobility, have been investigated. The important issues are the following: (1) The traditional residential location models, based on a trade-off assumption between housing and transportation costs, are more relevant to the young and small low-income households; (2) Both the analysis of the correlation coefficients and the principal component analysis show that the high income group tends to relate residential location to the quality of schools and neighborhood; and (3) Residential mobility decreases consistently with age of household head and household size. These findings give valuable implications for urban modelling and housing policy as well.

Notes: Summary In a chemically defined medium with glucose and sucrose as major carbon sources (standard medium), Cephalosporium acremonium excretes the intermediate of the β-lactam biosynthetic pathway, penicillin N, into the medium during growth; production of cephalosporins is delayed until glucose is completely utilized. Deacetoxycephalosporin C synthetase, the ring-expansion enzyme (“expandase”), does not appear as long as glucose is present. Afterwards, initiation of its formation is accompanied by the production of cephalosporins. Feeding additional glucose during the fermentation turns off expandase synthesis without affecting formation of isopenicillin N synthetase, the ring-cyclization enzyme (“cyclase”). The above results point to a strong glucose catabolite repression of the expandase as one of the main regulatory mechanisms in β-lactam biosynthesis by Cephalosporium acremonium and the reason for accumulation of penicillin N during the fermentation. Cyclase shows a biphasic pattern in activity, the first very high peak not being correlated with the excretion of any β-lactam antibiotic into the medium.

Notes: Summary The relationship of mitotic activity and degree of cytological differentiation for mast cells of the peritoneal cavity of the rat was studied using combined autoradiographic and histochemical techniques. A mitotic pool of mast cells can be differentiated from a non-mitotic pool, the former containing cells with immature cytoplasmic differentiation and the latter with fully developed cytoplasmic histochemical properties.
