Notes: Abstract CoNb2O6 can be prepared by reaction of stoichiometric amounts of CoO (thermical decomposition of cobaltoxalate) and Nb2O5 in argon-atmosphere up to 1,400 °C. The isolated red-brown single crystals have tetragonal symmetry (a=472.6;c=305.4 pm; space group P42/mnm-D 4h 14 ). Electron probe micro-analysis of the single crystals verifies the composition Co0.33Nb0.67O2. Co2+ and Nb5+ occupy statistically the metal positions of the rutil-type structure. The differences between Co0.5Nb0.5O2 (CoNbO4≡AlNbO4-type) and Co0.38Nb0.67O2 (CoNb2O6) are discussed.

Notes: Abstract The hitherto unknown compound Ca3Ga4O9 was prepared and investigated by X-ray single crystal methods. Ca3Ga4O9 has orthorhombic symmetry:a=1435.8;b=1682.5;c=532.1 pm; space group C 2v 11 −Cmm2,Z=6. The tetrahedra network (circles of 4 and 5 GaO4-tetrahedra) and the surrounding of Ca2+ are described and discussed with respect to other oxogallates.

Notes: Abstract (A), (B) and (C) were prepared by solid state reactions. Single crystals of quenched samples were examined by X-ray investigation. On the opposite of A2TiO5-pseudobrookite compounds (A), (B) and (C) crystallize with a high ordered metaldistribution on the point positions 4c and 8f.

Notes: Abstract Zn3Ta2O8 was prepared by high temperature solid state reaction (CO2-Lasertechnique). X-ray investigations of single crystals yield monoclinic symmetry (a=9.499;b=8.411;c=8.881 Å; β=116.03°, space group C 2h 6 —C2/c). There is no relationship between Zn3Ta2O8 and Zn3Nb2O8. Zn3Ta2O8 shows a characteristic structure type with octahedral coordination of Ta5+ and tetrahedral coordination of Zn2+.

Notes: Abstract Solid state reaction of CuO and Al2O3 with a flux of PbO about 930°C and reaction time of 8d gives the new compound Cu2Al4O7. The red single crystals were examined by energydispersive microanalysis and X-ray diffraction methods. Cu2Al4O7 has cubic symmetry, space group $$F\bar 43m$$ ,a=908.0 pm. The typical coordination of Cu+ (CN=6 and CN=12) and the interstitial arrangement of the AlO4-tetrahedra are discussed with respect to related compounds.

Notes: Abstract In thylakoid membranes isolated from green plants of parsley, pea, and barley, the light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein complex (LHCP, mol. weight: 25,000), is a major constituent. Poly(A)RNA isolated from these species was translated in a wheat germ, cell-free system. The in vitro translation products were treated with antibodies raised against the LHCP. This treatment resulted in the precipitation of a precursor protein (mol. weight: 29,000). Poly(A)RNA was also prepared from a cell culture ofPetroselinum that does not develop chloroplasts upon illumination. This poly(A)RNA is capable of stimulating amino acid incorporation in the in vitro translation system, however, it does not direct the synthesis of LHCP.

Notes: Abstract Polysomes from dark-grown and illuminated barley seedlings were translated in cell-free systems. The translation products reacting with the antibody against the light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein (LHCP) were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It was found that, in addition to the precursor protein of LHCP, a product was obtained that co-migrated with the mature protein. Furthermore, the results show that the light-induced proly(A)RNA for LHCP is integrated into the polysomal complex without delay, indicating that the integration of LHCP into the membrane is controlled at a higher level of gene expression.
