Description / Table of Contents:
The partition coefficients of zirconium and hafnium thiocyanates between solutions of thiocyanic acid in water and in hexanone are systematically investigated. They decrease strongly with increasing total concentration of (Zr + Hf); this includes the fact that the two metals interact with one another. The partition coefficients go through a distinct maximum with increasing concentration of HSCN. They decrease with increasing concentration of H+ ions; the influence of Cl- ions is small. The separation factors vary much less than the partition coefficients do. A qualitative explanation of the results is attempted.
Notes:
