Notes: Abstract Wave functions obtained in previous shell-model calculations [1, 2] for states of nuclei with massesA=10–15 are used to calculate logft values and spectroscopic factors. These wave functions, which were based on a modified surface delta two-body interaction, comprise the following active shell-model spaces: the 1p 3/2 and 1p 1/2 orbitals for mass 10–14 nuclei and restricted combinations of the 1p 1/2, 2s 1/2, 1d 5/2 and 1d 3/2 orbitals for mass 15 nuclei, leading to four different calculations in the latter case. The calculated results support evidence that the modified surface delta interaction is a valid approximation to the effective interaction in light nuclei.

Notes: Summary The bismuth content of various HNO3 pressure-digested biological matrices (milk powder, blood) was determined with a high degree of accuracy and reliability by flameless AAS. The detection limit of this method was determined to be 2.4×10−9 g. In addition, a simple procedure was developed to eliminate the disturbing influence of digestion medium reaction products.

Notes: Abstract The carabid fauna in three city parks of Kiel and in two beech woods in the surroundings was analysed by pitfall traps. 26 species (1667 individuals) were caught from April to August 1976. The carabids with high density in the city were euryecious, mainly of minor body size, mostly unable to fly and hibernated as larvae (probably preadaptations to life in the city). Dominant species in the city parks were:Nebria brevicollis, Patrobus atrorufus, Platynus assimilis, Notiophilus biguttatus, Pterostichus melanarius, Abax parallelopipedus, andCalathus piceus. The city parks were inhabited by a characteristic carabid fauna: the measure of proportional overlap ofSchoener with the carabid fauna in the wood was low. The same was true for the spider fauna in the botanical garden of Kiel (with 7 habitat types) in comparison to similar habitats in the surroundings. The diversity (index ofBrillouin) of the carabid fauna in the city parks was low; the diversity of the spider fauna in the botanical garden, however, was as high as in comparable habitats outside the city. The number of carabid species was correlated with the structural diversity of the green islands in the city, not with their area.

Notes: Synopsis Development of the fish community on a submerged 16 m barge and variation in fish abundance on nearby transects were surveyed twice monthly for twenty months. A steady increase in abundance was observed for certain fishes on the barge, whereas a few species exhibited distinct seasonal variation on both the barge and transects. Most of the seasonal species settled between March and May. Some seasonal species appeared to be site selective in their settlement and consequently settled juveniles were clumped in their distribution. An abundance of preferred topographical features may be why settlement was relatively high at the study site and indirectly why predators became significantly (r3 = 7.67***, N = 37) more abundant at the study area during the months of maximum prey settlement. Concurrent settlement of several species during the same few months may be important because juveniles become an abundant food source to predators during those few months only. Periodic swamping of predators by abundant juvenile prey may improve the chances for individuals of rarer prey species to be overlooked and therefore be succesfully recruited.

Notes: Abstract The optical anisotropyΔα (α=polarizability) of uniaxial deformed swollen and unswollen PMMA networks depends on the temperature. This is not in agreement with the Kuhn-Grün-theory. The temperature dependence and the negative values even above the glass transition temperatureT g can be explained by the existence of associations which cause a hindrance of the ester side group mobility. The swelling of the network in the optical isotropic solvent carbon tetrachloride does not degrade the associations and therefore not change the network structure; onlyT g decreases. The situation is more complicated if optical anisotropic solvents are used. Polar aliphatic and aromatic solvents degrade the associations to some extend and the birefringence is shifted to more positive values. An additional change is caused by specific polymer solvent interactions. Aromatic solvents form complexes with the ester side group and the aliphatic solvent chloroform completely degrades the associations, which can be explained by the formation of hydrogen bonds. Sign and magnitude of the optical anisotropy allow statements on the orientation of the solvent molecules with respect to the polymer chain or the ester side group.

Notes: Abstract The modified surface delta interaction (MSDI) is used as the effective two-nucleon residual interaction in extensive shell-model calculations forA=10–15 nuclei; a He-4 core andj-j coupled extra-core nucleon configurations of the formP 3/2 n P 1/2 m (1d 5/2,2s 1/2)1 are employed. Level energies and wave functions for low-lying non-normal parity states are first obtained from a simultaneous fit to experimental energies over the entire 10–15 mass range. The wave functions are next tested by comparing predicted nuclear properties with experimental data: single-nucleon spectroscopic factors, beta decay lifetimes,M1 andE2 radiative transition widths as well asE1 andM2 radiative widths are calculated. In general good agreement between experiment and theory is obtained.

Description / Table of Contents: Separation of Acoustic Emission Signals by Computerized AnalysesFeatures extracted from acoustic emission signals by means of different analysis methods can be evaluated by the application of pattern recognition computer programs. By these methods it can be established, whether the employed features - maximum amplitude, signal rise time, pulse sum, pulse area, pulse energy and mean amplitude as well as simple characteristics of frequency spectra - are capable to distinguish acoustic emission signals or whether combinations of features lead to better results when single features fail. The efficiency of different analyses and the pattern recongnition programs is examined by four simulated types of signals. According to the employed analysis method there are distinct differences regarding the separation of acoustic emission. However, by applying feature combinations signal groups not separable by single analysis methods can be distinguished.
