    Notes: Abstract A method of classifying quark operators in QCD sum rules is suggested. The expansion coefficients of all thed≦8 bilinear quark condensates in gluon condensates are calculated. The coefficient functions at the gluon operators withd≦8 in the polarization operator ∏(q 2) of the light-quark vector current are obtained. A comparison is performed with the calculations in the covariantly constant fields and self-dual fields. The results obtained can be used in the sum rules for the ρ, ω and ϕ families.

    Notes: Abstract A study of the effects of spatially and partially coherent illumination on the noise performance of an optical processor is presented here. Noise arising from defects in the object plane and the Fourier plane are considered separately. Two important types of noise are analyzed in detail: (a) amplitude noise and (b) ramdom phase noise. The results illustrate that the effects of the object phase noise can be reduced when the requirements on spatial coherence are relaxed. Also, the noise at the Fourier plane can be effectively eliminated when a spatially incoherent light source is employed.

    Notes: Abstract Synaptonemal complexes (SC) in four Ellobius talpinus males heterozygous for ten Robertsonian translocations were examined with an electron microscope using a surface-spreading technique. A total of 136 late zygotene and pachytene spermatocytes were examined. From one to three completely paired SC trivalents were found in each early pachytene spermatocyte. The lateral elements of the short arms of the acrocentric chromosomes in these trivalents were joined with an SC thus forming the third arm of the SC trivalent. At the same stage a few SC trivalents did not contain lateral elements in the pericentromeric region of the metacentric chromosomes and remained unpaired in this region up to mid pachytene. At zygotene and pachytene from two to eight SC trivalents were joined into chains due to formation of SCs between the short arms of acrocentrics of other SC trivalents. These chains are frequent at late zygotene, but are resolved during pachytene into individual trivalents. It is proposed that pairing and SC formation between the short arms of the acrocentric chromosomes results from the monosomy of the short arms and partial DNA homology between these heterochromatic regions. Since crossing over probably does not take place in these segments, the chromosomal chains may subsequently be corrected into trivalents by a dissolution of the SCs combining adjacent trivalents. The correction and disjoining of chains may not be effective in all cells. The cells in which the chains are retained are assumed to be arrested at the pachytene stage.

    Notes: Abstract Chromatophores from Ectothiorhodospira Shaposhnikovii in solvents of different viscosity were investigated by RSMR experiments in the temperature range between 112 K and room temperature. Additional RSMR-experiments were done on solvents only. The mobility of the molecules and within the molecules is the given by the Debye-Waller factor which yields the meansquare displacement, $$\overline {\left\langle {x^2 } \right\rangle }$$ , averaged over the atoms in the system. The mobility of the atoms of the chromatophores roughly follows the mobility of the atoms of the solvents. At low temperatures the mobility of the chromatophores remains slightly larger than the mobility of the frozen solvent. At room temperature, however, $$\overline {\left\langle {x^2 } \right\rangle }$$ of the chromatophores remains significantly smaller. Chromatophores in a glycerol-water mixture (0.001 M Tris-HCl buffer) and in water (0.05 M Tris-HCl buffer) show a different dynamic behaviour. A region with enhanced mobility near T=180 K was indicated for the chromatophores in the glycerolwater mixture. A correlation has been suggested between the rate of electron transfer from the primary to the secondary quinone and the increase of the conformational mobility of the chromatophores in glycerol-water mixture.

    Notes: Summary This paper, second in a series of three, develops a mathematical model, using the volume balance approach, to simulate vertical and horizontal recession of border irrigation. An equation is proposed for computing Manning's roughness factor N in both laminar and transitional flow regimes in recession phases. The model has four parameters which can be determined experimentally. Experimental data from ten vegetated as well as nonvegetated borders were used to verify the model. Average difference (AD) between calculated and observed vertical recession times was less than 4.4 min, and between calculated and observed horizontal recession times less than 4.6 min for the ten experimental data sets. Average relative error (ARE) in computed horizontal recession was less than 13% for these data sets. The model was found to be especially accurate for Reynold's number between 1,800 and 2,500.

Average relative error in computed advance was less than 6% in calibration and was less than 8% in prediction. The model was particularly accurate if Reynold's number was less than 2,500.
