Synopsis Gut contents of 294 individuals ofTor canis from Lake Kinneret (Israel), sampled throughout a full year indicated a wide trophic spectrum including 52 identified animal and plant species. Nevertheless a major part of ingested biomass (5.7 g per fish) was due to the Kinneret sardine (Mirogrex sp.). The biomass of other ingested organisms was relatively low (0.01–0.8 g per fish) consisting of planktonic organisms, zoobenthos, macrophytes and a few others. The role ofT. canis in the Kinneret ecosystem and management design is discussed.
