Notes: The intrinsic ASIS of the C-8, C-9 and C-10 methyl protons of camphor in 14 hydrocarbon solvents have been calculated using intrinsic ASIS values of the TMS protons. The intrinsic ASIS of the methyl groups show excellent correlation among themselves and, therefore, can be factored into independent solute and solvent factors UiVα. The solute factors, Ui, depend on the position of the methyl group with respect to the polar carbonyl group. The solvent factors, Vα, correlate with the benzene ring concentration of the aromatic solvents measured by d/M, which is in accordance with a general solvation mechanism but not with the formation of specific solute-solvent complexes.

Notes: This paper examines the effects of deformation amplitude, temperature and frequency on the dynamic properties of SBR-short fiber composites. The presence of the fiber increases the storage modulus at any deformation amplitude. Depending on the nature of the fiber, the linear response zone of the modulus versus deformation either diminishes or disappears. The loss factor tan δ is higher in fiber composites. Although the peaks do not vary in magnitude, they occur at different deformation amplitudes.Temperature increase causes the moduli to decrease, the gradient, however, being less pronounced for fiber composites. The relaxation spectra show a damping peak which correlates to the principal relaxation process in the elastomeric matrix. The temperature at which this peak appears is displaced towards higher values with increasing excitation frequency. This allows the determination of the apparent relaxation activation energy, which is higher in fiber plus adhesive composites (225 - 275 kJ/mol), as compared to the fiber-free composite (194 kJ/mol), as a consequence of stronger fiber-matrix interaction.

Notes: The crystal structure of the complex [phen · phen · phen] · NaBr · 2 CHCl3 of the macrobicyclic ligand 1 has been determined. The complex is of cryptate type, the Na+ cation being contained in the molecular cavity of 1 and coordinated to all eight N-atoms. The ligand has a propeller shape and interconverts in solution between the two enantiomeric helical forms.

Notes: An X-ray diffraction analysis of the crystalline complex 2b (MLn — TiCl4) shows a chelation of the carbonyl O-atom and the upper SO2 O-atom by TiCl4, a slightly pyramidal N-atom, and a π -face-stereoselective shielding of the C(α)-Si face by the CH2(3) group. The Ti-atom is in a pseudo-octahedral environment.

Notes: 1H-Cyclopropa[b]naphthalene (10a) and 3-methyl or dimethyl derivatives have been synthesized by interception of appropriately substituted o-quinodimethanes 3 with 1-bromo-2-chlorocyclopropene 5, and subsequent dehydrohalogenation of the adducts. The o-quinodimethane derivatives 3 in turn were obtained from the diynes 7 via base-induced isomerization to bisallenes 8 and thermal electrocyclic ring closure.

Notes: The stereochemistry of the Diels-Alder reaction of 1,2-dichloro-3,3-difluorocyclopropene (5a) to 1,4-diphenyl-1,3-butadiene (6) and 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran (7) was unambiguously established by X-ray structure determination. In all cases known so far, tetrahalogenocyclopropenes add exo to open-chain dienes and furans. The previously reported exo-addition product (2a) of l-bromo-2-chlorocyclopropene (5b) to 7 allows assignments of the stereochemistry of other additions of 5b to furans. exo-Addition usually predominates, but in some cases endo- adducts are also formed. This contrasts with reports in the literature that 5b adds preferentially endo to open-chain dienes.

Description / Table of Contents: The reaction with excess of diazomethane furnished methyl 4-cyano-1-methylpyrazole-5- and-3-carboxylate (2 and 3) as well as the three N-methyl-1,2,3-triazolecarboxylic esters 4-6. A mechanistic study revealed a poly-step sequence. The initial formation of the pyrazoline 8 proceeded normal. Base catalysis effected an equilibration of trans- and cis-2-pyrazoline, 8⇌12, followed by a fragmentation into methyl 4-cyano-3-pyrazolecarboxylate (26) and methyl cyanoformate (32); a 4H-pyrazole is supposed to be the key intermediate. The final products mentioned above emerged from further reaction of 26 and 32 with diazomethane.

Notes: A series of 3,4-disubstituted (4a, b) or 3,4-fused (4c-e) 1,1-di-fluorocyclopropabenzenes, including the very strained 1,1-difluoro-3,4-dihydro-1 H-cyclobuta[a]cyclopropa[d]benzene (4e) have been synthesized and characterized. Dissolution of these difluoro derivatives in fluorosulfonic acid affords the fluoro cations 3a-e. 1H-, 19F-, and 13C-NMR data of the cations are reported and discussed with respect to those of the precursors.
