Notes: Abstract The development of UHV instrumentation for photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) has opened up the possibility of investigating in situ the morphology of metal single crystal surfaces during simple catalytical reactions in the pressure range up to 10−4 mbar. We have studied the Pt(100) surface during the transition from the high to low rate branches of the CO oxidation reaction. Steps, step bunches and grain boundaries have been identified. They play an important role in the decomposition of CO and the deposition of carbon and probably regulate the reactivity of the Pt surface.

Notes: Summary Human preproacrosin is specified by a single gene (ACR). Using a series of human-rodent somatic cell hybrids containing variant complements of human chromosomes, the preproacrosin gene was found to cosegregate with human chromosome 22. Somatic cell hybrids containing translocation chromosomes carrying parts of chromosome 22 were used to locate the preproacrosin gene to the region 22q13–22qter. By probing the DNA of 82 individuals, a restriction fragment length polymorphism was found with SstI in 14 cases.

Notes: Summary Allelic association between cystic fibrosis and two linked markers is demonstrated in a sample of 55 German families. It is shown by example how these observations can be used for genetic risk calculation.

Notes: Summary The linkage relationships between the cystic fibrosis (CF) locus and four marker loci (MET-H, MET-D, D7S8 and D7S16), allelic associations between these loci and the extent of informativity at these marker loci were investigated in a sample of 206 families with at least one child affected by CF. The data were contributed by 11 laboratories from Europe and Israel. The maximum lod scores and recombination frequency estimates ( $$\hat \theta $$ ) (and confidence limits of θ) were: 18.3 at $$\hat \theta $$ =0.007(0.001−0.038) for CF vs. MET, 11.0 at $$\hat \theta $$ (0.001–0.068) for CF vs. D7S8, and 5.7 at $$\hat \theta $$ =0.0(0.0−0.064) for CF vs. D7S16. A gene order of CF-MET-D7S8 was best supported by the data, but its preference to the order D7S8-CF-MET is mainly based on one single family. There are significant allelic associations between CF, MET, D7S8 and D7S16; these allelic associations affect the risk of random individuals to be carriers of CF.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe des Mikro-Thermoanalysators und des Wärmeflußcalorimeters DSC 111 der Fa.
Notes: Abstract The entropy change of the phase transition from the chalcopyrite to the sphalerite structure of compounds AIBIIIC 2 VI and AIIBIVC 2 V was determined with a Setaram Microthermalanalyzer and a DSC 111 heat flow calorimeter. From these results one can not generally decide the order of the phenomenon, but the discussion gives hints as to a first-order transition. On the basis of a simple correlation between the ratio of the lattice constants extrapolated up to the melting temperature and the reduced temperature of the phase transition, it is possible to predict the order disorder behaviour.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Mittels Röntgendiffraktionsverfahren wurde die Feststoffreaktion von Ammoniumnitrat mit Kupferoxid untersucht.
Notes: Abstract The solid state reaction of ammonium nitrate and copper oxide was studied by the use of energy dispersive and angle dispersive x-ray diffraction. The reaction takes place within the temperature interval 110 to 150 °C and consists of two steps. The product of these consecutive reactions is the diammine copper complex. The relative concentrations of the species involved were evaluated by summing up difference x-ray spectra. The resulting curves were analyzed by a computer program to obtain the kinetic constants of the reactions.

Notes: Ammonium nitrate doped with diammine copper dinitrate and stored for 10 years was reinvestigated by DTA and TMA. The phase transition IV/II and IV/III, which are of interest for the practical use, still occur above 50°C. In spite of moisture contents between 0.4% and 1.4% no caking was observed.
