    Description / Table of Contents: In the binary copolymerization systems of allylbenzene, 2-methylpentene-1 and isobutene with acrylonitrile rOlefin = 0 can be postulated. By linear correlation of the rAN-values with the molar fraction of the olefin the ordinate intersection provides constant values of rAN depending only on the kind of olefin and the solvent. Constant values of rAN are also obtained by supposing the olefin concentration to be reduced at the reaction site. The concentration of reactive olefins is related to their initial amount by an exponential expression.
    Notes: Für die binären Copolymerisationssysteme von Allylbenzen, 2-Methylpenten-1 und Isobuten mit Acrylnitril läßt sich rOlefin = 0 postulieren. Durch lineare Korrelation der rAN-Werte und dem Molenbruch des Olefins werden aus dem Ordinatenabschnitt konstante rAN-Werte erhalten, die nur von der Art des Olefins und dem Lösungsmittel abhängig sind. Die konstanten rAN-Werte lassen sich auch auf Basis der Modellvorstellung, daß die Olefinkonzentration am Reaktionsort reduziert ist, ableiten. Die reaktive Olefinkonzentration ist durch eine Exponentialbeziehung mit der eingesetzten verknüpft.

    Description / Table of Contents: The quantitative determination of the r-values has been performed by non-linear optimum adaption of various selected copolymerization equations to the experimental values referring to low and high conversion with the aim of model selection. The two-parameter models discussed provide r-values being independent of comonomer composition and conversion. The three-parameter models, as the penultimate model, suggesting particularly reduced olefine concentration at the reaction site, can account for model deficiencies in the medium composition range of the monomer mixture.
    Notes: Die Quantifizierung der r-Werte erfolgt durch nichtlineare optimale Anpassung verschidenster ausgewählter Copolymerisationsgleichungen an die experimentellen Daten bei niedrigem und höherem Umsatz mit der Zielstellung einer Modellselektion. Alle diskutierten Zweiparametermodelle liefern r-Werte, die von der Comonomerzusammensetzung und vom Umsatz abhängig sind. Dreiparametermodelle, wie das „Penultimate Modell“, und besonders die Annahme der am Reaktionsort reduzierten Olefinkonzentration können den Modelldefekt in mittleren Zusammensetzungsbereichen der Monomermischung beheben.

    Description / Table of Contents: The overall rate of copolymerization of the systems acrylonitrile/allylbenzene, acrylonitrile/α-methylstyrene, acrylonitrile/2-methylpentene-1 and, for comparison, acrylonitrile/styrene was determined in dependence on the solvent of the monomer mixture, the overall monomer concentration and the temperature. The results are discussed by means of an empirical overall rate equation.
    Notes: Die Bruttogeschwindigkeit der Copolymerisation der Systeme Acrylnitril/Allylbenzen, Acrylnitril/α-Methylstyren, Acrylnitril/2-Methylpenten-1 und im Vergleich dazu von Acrylnitril/Styren werden in Abhängigkeit vom Lösungsmittel der Monomermischung, der Gesamtmonomerkonzentration und der Temperatur bestimmt. Die Ergebnisse werden mit einer empirischen Bruttogeschwindigkeitsgleichung diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The constants derived for the copolymerization systems of allylbenzene, 2-methylpentene-1 and isobutene with acryloninitrile, the rAN values being independent of the comonomer mixture and the yield, as well as the parameters rANL required for estimating the effect of the solvent by combining the overall rate and copolymerization equations were found to correlate linearly with the donor value of the solvent. The effect of the solvent is explained predominantly by the interaction of electrophilic macroradicals being solvated to different degree with acrylonitrile at the chain end.
    Notes: Die für die Copolymerisationssysteme von Allylbenzen, 2-Methylpenten-1 und Isobuten mit Acrylnitril abgeleiteten Konstanten, die von der Comonomermischung und dem Umsatz unabhängigen rAN-Werte sowie die zur Quantifizierung des Lösungsmitteleinflusses aus der Kombination von Bruttogeschwindigeits- und Copolymerisationsgleichung erhaltenen Parameter rANL korrelieren linear mit der Donorzahl der Lösungsmittel. Der Lösungsmitteleinfluß wird vor allem durch die Wechselwirkung des unterschiedlich solvatisierten elektrophilen Makroradikals mit Acrylnitril am Kettenende erklärt.

    Notes: The electron impact (EI) mass spectra (75 eV) of the new carboxylic acid ionophore griseochelin and some of its derivatives are discussed. The mass spectral fragmentation was studied using exact mass measurements and deuterium labelling. Furthermore, the negative ion mass spectra (2-4 eV) of these compounds are compared with their EI mass spectra.

    Notes: The applicability of capillary columns for gas chromatography is often limited by stationary phase degradation at elevated temperatures. In order to achieve a better understanding of column thermostability, column bleed products have been analyzed qualitatively by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Three silicone stationary phases were studied: SE-52, SE-54, and OV-1701. Each of these was immobilized in the columns. The proportion of cyclics containing diphenyl in column bleed from SE-52 reflected to a large extent the composition of the polymer, while for SE-54 the proportion of such cyclics was unexpectedly high. The polar moiety of OV-1701, the cyanopropyl(phenyl)siloxy unit, was found to exert a highly destabilizing effect on the polymer, and the thermal degradation products consisted mainly of cyclosiloxanes containing this unit.

    Description / Table of Contents: Metal-matrix Composites with Metallic GlassesMetallic glass ribbons are well known for their very high tensile strengths. Since they offer an attractive potential of low-cost volume production, the development of a metallic glass-metal matrix composite should be very attractive. This paper reports first results on the feasibility of fabricating such composites by surface plating or incorporation by various techniques.The influence of fabrication methods on the interfacial bonding was investigated by means of cross-sectional light and electron microscopy.
    Notes: Metallglas-Bänder zeichnen sich durch sehr hohe Zugfestigkeit und kostengünstige Herstellung aus, so daß die Entwicklung eines Metallglas-Metallmatrix-Verbundwerkstoffes ausgesprochen interessant erscheint.Die vorliegende Arbeit berichtet über erste Ergebnisse, solche Verbundwerkstoffe durch Oberflächenbeschichten, verschiedene Einbettmethoden bzw. ein Festkörperreaktionsverfahren herzustellen.Dabei wird vorallem der Einfluß der Herstellungsmethoden auf die Grenzflächenhaftung licht- und elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht.

    Notes: A specific and sensitive method for the determination of ethylenediamine in human plasma is described. The aqueous sample is treated with m-toluoyl chloride, yielding the N,N′-bis(m-toluoyl) derivative of the diamine, which is extracted into dichloromethane and quantitated after “on column” methylation by capillary gas liquid chromatography with alkali flame ionization detection. The corresponding derivative of putrescine serves as internal standard. The assay is reproducible and calibration curves are linear over the concentration range 0.05 to 10 μg · ml-1. The lower detection limit is about 10 ng · ml-1. The structures of the compounds of interest eluting from the capillary column are examined by gas liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. The assay has been applied to the analysis of ethylenediamine in plasma following the administration of aminophylline and ethylenediamine in a cross-over study to patients with bronchopulmonary diseases. The method also proves suitable for measuring other primary and secondary amines and diamines in aqueous solutions by gas liquid chromatography.

    Notes: The properties of hexakis(3-O-acetyl-2,6-di-O-pentyl)-α-cyclodextrin as a chiral stationary phase for capillary gas chromatography are described. For the first time the enantiomers of a series of different lactones are separated and their order of elution is assigned. Moreover, the enantiomers of trifluoroacetylated aldols and amino alcohols, the cyclic carbonates of 1,2-diols, 1,3-diols, O-alkylated glycerols, and some chiral pharmaceuticals are also separated on the new chiral phase. The modified α-cyclodextrin is stable above 200°C.
