    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Sulfur isotope fractionation in systems of gas and solution between H2S and sulfur species in H2O and aqueous solutions of NaOH, HCl, NaCl, FeCl2 and combinations thereof was studied under equilibrium conditions. Concentration, pH, temperature, and in one case pressure were varied. A close relation was found between sulfur isotope fractionation and dissociation as well as molecular solubility of H2S: $$\Delta ^{{\text{34}}} {\text{S}}_{{\text{L}} - {\text{G}}} \left[ {{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 0$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle {00}$}}} \right] = \left[ {A\left( {\frac{{L*}}{{L'}} - 1} \right)\left( {1 - \alpha } \right) - B\left( {\frac{{k'}}{{k*}} - 1} \right)\alpha } \right] \cdot 10^3 $$ where A and B are constants, L * and L′ are the molecular solubilities of H2 34S and H2 32S, respectively; α is the degree of dissociation, and k * and k′ are the dissociation constants of H2 34S and H2 32S, respectively. It follows for H2S gas and aqueous solutions of HCl or NaOH at 20° C and 1 bar: $$\Delta ^{34} {\text{S}}_{{\text{L}} - {\text{G}}} \left[ {{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 0$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle {00}$}}} \right] = 0,8\left( {1 - \alpha } \right) - 3,8\alpha $$ .
H2 32S. Für Lösungen mit HCl oder NaOH bei 20° C und 1 bar ergibt sich die Gleichung $$\Delta ^{34} {\text{S}}_{{\text{L}} - {\text{G}}} \left[ {{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 0$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle {00}$}}} \right] = 0,8\left( {1 - \alpha } \right) - 3,8\alpha $$ .
