    Notes: The paper shows the advantages of graded furnaces for the thermal polymerization of a silica-organic polymer cladding for silica fibers. Owing to the optimal longitudinal distribution of the heaters a fivefold increase of the fiber drawing speed can be achieved using heaters of the same lengths and power.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die aufeinanderfolgende Copolymerisation von cis-1,2-Dimethyoxyethylen mit Benzylvinylether wurde in Toluenlösung bei -78°C unter Verwendung des Initiators BF3 · O(CH3)2 untersucht. Die Reaktionsprodukte wurden nach ihrer Löslichkeit getrennt und spektroskopisch sowie mittels GPC analysiert. Es wurde ein Blockcopolymer aus cis-1,2-Dimethoxyethylen und Benzylvinylether gebildet. Der Einfluß der Kettenlänge auf die Reaktivität der Makrokationen wird festgestellt.
    Notes: Sequential copolymerization of cis-1,2-dimethyoxyethylene with benzyl vinyl ether in a toluene solution at -78°C using BF3·O (CH3)2 as initiator has been investigated. The reaction products were separated according to solubility and analyzed with the aid of spectroscopic methods and GPC. It was established that a cis-1,2-dimethyoxyethylenebenzyl vinyl ether block copolymer is formed. The effect of chain length on the reactivity of macrocations is revealed

    Description / Table of Contents: Die kationische Polymerisation von cis-1,2-Dimethoxyethylen wurde untersucht. Die Bedingungen zur Bildung von Polymeren mit besonders hohen Molekülmassen von etwa 106 wurden festgestellt. Mittels GPC wurde gezeigt, daß die Polymere keine Langkettenverzweigungen aufweisen. Die Molekülmassenverteilung ist unimodal, und das Verhältnis Mw/Mn überschreitet nicht den Wert 1,5. Die Faktoren, die zu einer Erhöhung der Stabilität der aktiven Polymerisationszentren führen, werden diskutiert.
    Notes: The cationic polymerization of cis-1,2-dimethoxyethylene has been investigated and conditions for the formation of polymers of exceptionally high molecular weight of about 106 have been established. It was shown by means of GPC method, that long chain branching was absent, MWD was unimodal and Mw/Mn ratio did not exceed 1.5. The factors increasing the stability of active centres of polymerization are discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Durch Röntgenweitwinkelstreuung wurde die Strukturbildung des isotaktischen Polypropylens beim Übergang vom abgeschreckten in den kristallinen Zustand untersucht. Anhand der Temperaturabhängigkeit der Gestalt der amorphen Streukurve wurde die Zusammensetzung von Proben mit unterschiedlichem Kristallinitätsgrad und unterschiedlichem parakristallinen Anteil quantitativ bestimmt. Mit Hilfe der IR-Spektroskopie wurde gezeigt, daß die Verstreckung des abgeschreckten Polypropylens das Einfrieren der Konformationsordnung der Makromoleküle bewirkt. Dieses Einfrieren behindert den Übergang in den kristallinen Zustand beim Erwärmen.
    Notes: The structure formation during transition from the quenched into the crystalline state has been studied for isotactic polypropylene by wide-angle X-ray scattering. Based on the temperature dependence of the shape of the curve of amorphous scattering the composition of samples with different degrees of crystallinity and different content of paracrystalline form was determined quantitatively. By means of IR spectroscopy it was shown that stretching of quenched polypropylene leads to the freezing of the conformational array in macromolecules. This freezing hinders the transition into the crystalline state upon heating.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die Reaktion von Polystyren-Makroanionen mit Poly(dimethoxyethylen)-Makrokationen wurde in Toluenlösung bei -78°C untersucht. Die Reaktionsprodukte wurden nach ihrer Löslichkeit getrennt und spektroskopisch sowie durch GPC analysiert. Es wurde gefunden, daß bei der Reaktion ein Blockcopolymer von cis-1,2-Dimethoxyethylen und Styren entsteht, womit frühere Annahmen über die hohe Stabilität eines aktiven Zentrums bei der Polymerisation von cis-1,2-Dimethoxyethylen bestätigt werden.
    Notes: The reaction of polystyrene macroanions with poly(dimethoxyethylene) macrocations was investigated in a toluene solution at -78°C. The reaction products were separated according to solubility and analyzed by spectroscopic methods and GPC. It was established that a block copolymer of cis-1,2-dimethoxylene and styrene is formed, which confirms previous suggestions about the high stability of an active centre in the polymerization of cis-1,2-dimethoxyethylene.

    Notes: Molecular and crystal structure of the title compound has been determined. The (PN)3 and (SiO)4 rings form the dihedral angle of 100.1° and with the HNCH2CH2CH2 plane the angles of 110.2° and 75.7° respectively. The molecular packing is built of alternating layers of (PN)3 and (SiO)4 beterocycles.

    Notes: Formation and thermodynamic characteristics of C—H ⃛ O hydrogen bonding of methylated uracils and caffeine have been studied by nmr along two lines. 1The concentration and temperature dependencies of the PMR spectra of 1,3-dimethyluracil (m2 1,3Ura), 1,3-dimethylthymine (m2 1,3Thy), and 1,3,6-trimethyluracil (m3 1,3,6Ura) in chloroform at high concentrations of base analogs indicated the self-association of m2 1,3Ura and m2 1,3Thy via C(6)H ⃛ O hydrogen bonding and the competitive formation of C—H ⃛ O bonds between carbonyl oxygens and chloroform. The intermolecular interaction energy and the arrangement of molecules in the local minima of various m2 1,3Ura dimers were calculated by the method of atom-atom potentials. The deepest minimum for the m2 1,3Ura coplanar dimer corresponds to a C(6)—H ⃛ O hydrogen-bond formation.2At low concentration of m2 1,3Ura and caffeine in CCl4, C(6)—H ⃛ O bonding for m2 1,3Ura and C(8)-H ⃛ O bonding for caffeine with oxygens of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and acetone were observed. The association constants of these complexes were obtained at different temperatures. The enthalpies ΔH, of the m2 1,3Ura-DMSO, m2 1,3Ura-accetone, caffeine-DMSO, and caffeine-acetone complexes were -2 ⃛ 0.1 kcal/mol. The calculations showed that the deepest minimum of the caffeine-acetone coplanar complex corresponds to C(8)—H ⃛ O bonding with energy of -3.5 kcal/mol and that of the m2 1,3Ura-acetone complexes corresponds to C(6)—H ⃛ O bonding with energy of -3.4 kcal/mol. The approximate correction for the solvent effect provides good agreement of the experimental data with the calculations.

    Notes: The structural peculiarities of cis-1,4-isoprene rubber, oligodiene diisocyanate, and derivative of phenol-formaldehyde resin blends have been studied by WAXS and SAXS methods and electron microscopy. It has been demonstrated that the addition of modifiers and further thermal treatment under conventional curing conditions change considerably the microheterogeneous structure and morphology and contribute to the improvement of the short-range order in the rubber matrix.
