Notes: Summary The RAD7 and RAD23 genes of S. cerevisiae affect the efficiency of excision repair of UV-damaged DNA. We have examined the UV survival of strains carrying the rad7 or rad23 deletion mutation in combination with deletion mutations in genes affecting different DNA repair pathways. As expected, the rad7Δ and rad23Δ mutations interact epistatically with the excision repair defective rad1Δ mutation, and synergistically with the rad6Δ and rad52Δ mutations that affect the postreplication repair and recombinational repair pathways, respectively. However, the rad7Δrad6Δ and the rad23Δrad6Δ mutants exhibit the same level of UV sensitivity as the radlΔrad6Δ mutant. This observation is of interest since, in contrast to the rad7Δ or the rad23Δ mutations, the rad1Δ mutant is very UV sensitive and highly excision defective. This observation suggests that RAD6 and RAD7 and RAD23 genes compete for the same substrate during DNA repair.

Notes: Abstract Using radiochemical and gamma spectrometric technique the branching fractions in the beta decay of117Cd isomers and the internal transition branching of117mIn have been established. The beta branching fraction of117gCd→117gIn was obtained as 0.86±0.06 and the value of117mCd→117gIn was found to be less than 1%. The internal transitin branching and the isomer cross-section ratio were obtained as 0.31±0.02 and 0.197±0.002, respectively. From the measured isomer cross-section ratio the spin cut-off parameter was evaluated, which agreed with the value reported in the literature.

Notes: Abstract Fission fragment angular momenta in thermal neutron induced fission of241Pu have been deduced for the first time from radiochemically determined independent isomeric yield ratios of the corresponding fission products131, 133Te and132I. The values obtained are 5.8±1.1 ħ, 5.95±1.2 ħ and 8.85±0.65 ħ for131, 133Te and132I, resp. The present data along with the literature data are discussed in the light of influence of fragment nuclear structure, such as the presence of odd proton in the fragment and spherical and/or deformed neutron shell configuration.

Notes: Abstract Cumulative yields of short-lived/barium isotopes139, 141, 142Ba have been determined in the spontaneous fission of252Cf, using fast radiochemical separation and gamma-ray spectrometry.142Ba yield is reported for the first time. The measured cumulative yields are converted to chain yields, assuming normal charge distribution systematics for comparision with the literature data.

Notes: Abstract The fractional cumulative yields of135I,138Xe and140Ba in the α particle (30 MeV) induced fission of232Th have been determined following the growth and decay of135gXe,138gCs and140La, respectively, employing high resolution gamma ray spectroscopy. The fractional cumulative yield values are 0.766±0.02, 0.813±0.03 and 0.991±0.004, respectively. The analysis of the data indicates a broader width of charge distribution (σ) compared to the normally observed σ=0.56±0.06 for thermal neutron fission of235U.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary 1. Conductometric studies of complex formation between iron (III) and colloidal mercuri-sulphosalicylic acid and sulphosalicylic acid have been made in an acidic medium. 2. Both with mercuri-sulphosalicylic and sulphosalicylic acids, iron (III) reacts to form a violet complex at a ratio of 1∶1 of the reactants.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Das Vanadium-Pentoxyd-Sol zeigt, wenn Ultraschall ausgesetzt, einen steigenden Wert an Wasserstoffionen-Konzentration und LeitfÄhigkeit.
Notes: Summary The vanadium pentoxide sol when exposed to ultrasonic waves shows an increased value of hydrogen ion concentration and conductivity. It is postulated that this change is due to either supersaturation of metavanadic acid in presence of the high frequency waves or to the production of peroxyvanadic acid under the influence of hydrogen peroxide which is known to be formed in traces under these conditions. The change in viscosity of vanadium pentoxide sol in presence of electrolytes under the influence of ultrasonic waves has also been recorded.

Notes: Summary The influence of ultrasonic waves on the hydrogen ion concentration of several colloids have been studied It has been found that the sols of antimony sulphide, arsenious sulphide, stannic hydroxide, chromium hydroxide, vanadium pentoxide and manganese dioxide show slight decrease in pH values. On the other hand the sols of prussian blue, copper ferrocyanide, uranium ferrocyanide, aluminium hydroxide and cerium hydroxide show an increase and that of ferric arsenate, ferric phosphate and ferric hydroxide do not show any change in pH values. Further the sols of antimony sulphide, arsenic sulphide, manganese dioxide and uranium ferrocyanide coagulate on prolonged exposure and ceric hydroxide sol sets to a gel.
