    Description: Observations of the fluxes of low energy nuclei in the Earth's magnetosphere are reported. The energy distribution and the composition of the nuclear component of cosmic rays observed during the solar flare of April 26, 1984 are presented.

    Description: The low polar-orbiting Cosmos-900 satellite carried a large geometric factor Cerenkov counter to study the particle anisotropy and spectrum near the proton increase peak in solar cosmic rays. The data help understand different temporal behavior of the increases detected at the stations because the whole set of data showed that the angular distribution of solar cosmic ray particles in interplanetary space was narrow throughout the observation time, resulting in a rapid variation of particle intensity near the poles. The power-law index of the solar cosmic ray integral spectrum varied from -2.4 to -5.2 in the 1 to 4 GV rigidity range from 10.31 to 11.25 UT on November 22, 1977. The flare-time data from all orbits indicate an increased radiation intensity on L=3.5 to 4.0.

    Description: Simultaneous vector magnetograms were obtained with the different magnetographs of the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory and the Sayan Mountain Observatory in October 1983. The data obtained show a good correspondence in general. The comparison makes clear something on the measuring accuracy of each magnetograph. Good correspondence is shown in circular and linear polarizations, and, in and near sunspots, of the velocity field. The azimuth of the magnetic fields show good agreement.

    Description: Part of galactic cosmic rays (CR) observed near the Earth and on the Earth come from beyond-disk regions of circumsolar space. But CR of those energies which undergo substantial modulation cover too large a path across the lines of force of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) in order that they could provide an effective transfer of information about beyond-disk solar activity. And if it is still possible, the most probable channel for transferring such information must be a neutral layer of heliomagnetosphere in which the transverse CR transport is facilitated by their drift in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. A simple diffusion model for an expected CR variation in a neutral layer near the Earth is discussed. It is of importance that variations of the CR gradient are not at all always accompanied by considerable variations of IMF and solar wind velocity at the point of observation.

    Description: The method of spectrographic global survey was used to study the time variations in parameters of cosmic ray (CR) pitch angle anisotropy and their relationship with the variations of some solar wind characteristics under different electromagnetic conditions in interplanetary space. A classification is made of the conditions that are accompanied by the increase in CR anisotropy.

    Description: The influence of boundaries of the large scale unipolar magnetic regions (UMR) on the Sun upon the charged particle propagation in the solar corona and interplanetary space is investigated. Increases of the charged particle fluxes from solar flares on November 4 and 20, 1978 detected by Venera-11 and Prognoz-1 and on December 7, 1982 by Venera-13 and "GMS-2" were analyzed.

    Description: The event of February 16, 1984 is one of the two largest ground increases of solar cosmic rays (CR) in the last two cycles of solar activity. This event happended at a decrease of the 21-st cycle against a quiet background. Although at the beginning of 1984 the observed indices of solar activity were higher than those at the end of 1983, the day of February 16 16 may be characterized as very quiet. On that day the geomagnetic perturbance (Sigma F sub p = 14, A sub p = 7) was the lowest in February. After a small Forbush decrease due to the magnetic storm of February 12-13, the CR intensity almost completely recovered by February 16. Thus, the solar particles that came to the Earth on February 16 got into a practically unperturbed magnetosphere, and the variations of secondary CR induced by these particles were not superimposed on any other substantial variations of extraterrestrial or magnetospheric origin.

    Description: A detailed study of the relationship between metric radio bursts and soft X-ray flares has been made using an extensive data set covering 15 yr. It is found that type IV emission is mainly associated with long-duration 1-8 A events that are known to be well associated with coronal mass ejections. In contrast, type II and type III bursts originate primarily in impulsive soft X-ray events that are not necessarily accompanied by mass ejection. Strong type III bursts, in particular, appear to occur only in association with relatively impulsive flares. It is suggested that coronal shocks responsible for type II bursts are blast waves generated in impulsive energy releases.

    Description: The properties of meter wavelength solar emissions are studied using a sample of all type II and type IV radio bursts detected by the Culgoora radio observatory during 1968-1983. It is found that type IV emission generally occurs in conjunction with type II emission. For type III bursts preceding type II bursts, the delay to type II onset is 6.5 min on average. The intensities and durations of type II bursts are not dependent on the heliolongitude of the associated flares.

    Description: We compared flare gamma ray line (GRL) events and solar energetic proton (SEP) events for the period from Feb. 1980 - Jan. 1985 and substantiated earlier results showing a lack of correlation between gamma-ray-producing ions and interplanetary protons. This poor correlation results primarily from several large SEP events that originated in flares without detectable gamma ray emission. The converse case of GRL events unassociated with SEP events is rare. We present evidence which suggests that the ratio of trapped to escaping protons in GRL/SEP flares depends on the spatial scale size of the flare. We affirm the result of Bai and Dennis (1985) that GRL flares are generally accompanied (75 percent) by metric Type 2 bursts.
