Present work explores the feasibility of using mixed saturated salt solutions to provide additional solutions of known water activity (aw). The mixed saturated salt solutions studied were: K2SO4-KNO3, K2SO4-MgSO4, KCl-KNO3, NaCl-KCl and NaCl-NaNO3. The aw of the ternary saturated salt mixtures was predicted using a theoretical model of the thermodynamic properties of mixed aqueous electrolyte solutions. Prediction of aw compared very well with experimental determinations.
