    Notes: It is shown that the differentiable, affine, and metric structure of Newton–Cartan space-time is uniquely determined by its projective–conformal–material structure. This means physically, that—similarly as in general relativity—it is also possible in classical gravitation to define operations of parallel transport and measurements of length, time, and mass using only three kinds of world lines: world lines of freely falling test particles, of photons, and of gravitational matter.

    Notes: Abstract Sera of patients suffering from the autoimmune disease progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) are known to contain autoantibodies which have been reported to recognize a 70 kDa antigenic protein, designated the Scl 70 antigen. By immunoblotting of nuclear extracts from HeLa cells with sera from scleroderma patients we observed that the size of the antigen present in such cells depends on the conditions of antigen isolation. When protease inhibitors were included in the extraction buffer, a 95 kDa protein was identified instead of a 70 kDa protein. When protease inhibitors were omitted, a number of polypeptides in the size range 66 to 95 kDa was found. Furthermore, antibodies which had been affinity purified on the 95 kDa antigen, crossreacted with the 66 to 95 kDa polypeptides. These results suggest that the smaller proteins were degradation products of the 95 kDa antigen. Immunofluorescence studies on PtK-2 cells with the antibody specific for the 95 kDa protein gave staining of nuclei, nucleoli and of chromosomes and the nucleolar organizer region in mitotic cells. Since this distribution of antigens within the nucleus was reminiscent of the intranuclear distribution of DNA topoisomerase I found by others we probed purified DNA topoisomerase I from calf thymus directly with the autoantibodies from PSS patients, and also the 95 kDa antigens of HeLa cell nuclei with antibodies raised against the bovine DNA topoisomerase I. From the crossreaction pattern observed with the different antigens and antibodies we conclude that DNA topoisomerase I is one of the antigenic components against which autoantibodies are formed in scleroderma patients.

    Notes: Abstract It is argued that the up to now only existing expression for the microscopic stress tensor in the presence of many-body interactions, while being formally acceptable, displays some physical shortcomings. These unpleasant features are remedied by explicitly constructing and symmetrizing a new stress tensor field. With the help of this construction, some recent results on the appearance of extremely long-ranged correlations involving the stress tensor field in systems with spontaneously broken symmetries are generalized.

    Notes: Schlüsselreaktion zur Darstellung mehrerer neuer Abkömmlinge des Prednisolons was die Überführung von 16-Methylen-17α-hydroxy-progesteron in 16β-Chlormethyl-bzw. 16β-Brommethyl-16α. 17α-oxido-progesteron mittels N-Halogen-succinimids und die Darstellung des entsprechenden Fluorids aus dem Bromid. Durch Säurebehandlung unter verschiedenen Bedingungen wurden daraus 16-Flour- und 16-Chlormethylen-17α-hydroxy-progesteron bzw. 15-Dehydro-16-fluormethyl-17α-hydroxy-progesteron gewonnen und diese auf bekanntem Wege in die entsprechenden Prednisolone übergeführt. Als Modellsubstanz wurde ferner das 15-Dehydro-16-methyl-prednisolon dargestellt.

    Notes: This contribution reviews the work performed mainly at Bergbau-Forschung during the past few years. First, it deals with the quantitative description of gasification kinetics, taking into account the pressure of the gasifying agent and partial pressures of product gases. Thereby, a method and quantitative data are provided for the calculation of reaction rates for uncatalyzed and potassium-catalyzed gasification, on the example of chars from high volatile bituminous coals. In addition, a method for characterization of internal surface area by oxygen chemisorption with respect to char reactivity has been improved. Progress has also been achieved in the assessment of the impact of pyrolysis conditions, especially the time-temperature profile during char formation, on its chemical activity during subsequent use.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Im Cetyl-trimethyl-ammoniumchlorid wurde ein Reagens gefunden, welches die quantitative Bestimmung von Borfluorwasserstoffsäure neben Flußsäure und Borsäure gestattet. Durch Anwendung einer überschüssigen Cetyl-trimethyl-ammoniumchloridlösung von bestimmtem Gehalt gelingt es, HBF4 quantitativ als weißen kristallinen Niederschlag von der Zusammensetzung (C19H42N)·(BF4) abzuscheiden, einer Verbindung, die gegenüber dem bisher gebräuchlichen Nitronborfluorid eine mehr als 10mal geringere Löslichkeit (L20 ∘∶0,0025) aufweist. Nach der Fällung wird ein gegebener, die Löslichkeit beeinflussender Säureüberschuß durch Neutralisation mit Alkalilauge unschädlich gemacht und durch leichtes Erwärmen auf etwa 60° C und anschließendes Abkühlen eine gute Filtrierbarkeit des Niederschlages durch Umkristallisation erreicht. Der Cetyl-trimethyl-ammoniumchloridüberschuß wird mit überschüssiger Kaliumcyanoferrat(II)-lösung von bestimmtem Gehalt in schwefelsaurer Lösung ausgefällt und der Überschuß an Cyanoferrat(II) wiederum mit Kaliumpermanganatlösung titriert und die Borfluorwasserstoffsäure errechnet. Die Analysenmethode wurde mit Hilfe zweier Standardlösungen von HBF4, die aus HF und H3BO3 bestimmten Gehalts hergestellt waren, eingearbeitet, wobei es sich erwies, daß bei einem Borsäuregehalt, der das stöchiometrische Verhältnis 4 HF zu H3BO3 überschreitet, eine geringere Menge HBF4 festgestellt wurde, als aus dem HF-Gehalt zu erwarten war. Erklärt wurde diese Tatsache mit der Bindung von HF an größere Mengen H3BO3 in Form der Zwischenverbindungen wie HBF3(OH), HBF2(OH)2 oder HBF(OH)3.
