Notes: Abstract The threeAstarte species were studied in June 1983 at two sites in Kiel Bay, “Süderfahrt” and “Schleimünde”, at 20 m depth. Shell length to live wet weight correlations are given for all three species; forA. elliptica also shell-free dry weight, shell dry weight, ash-free dry weight of the soft body and ash-free dry weight of the shell are recorded as functions of the shell length. In the logarithmic length/weight regression analysis the coefficients of slope forA. elliptica andA. borealis are 3. ForA. montagui, that coefficient is significantly greater than 3. Weight conversion factors, calculated forA. elliptica, revealed a mean weight composition of 31.5 % water in the mantle cavity and tissue water, 64.5 % shell ash, 2.1 % organic content of shell, 1.7 % organic content of the soft body and 0.4 % ash of the soft body. An isometric growth of shell length and shell breadth is confirmed forA. borealis, whileA. montagui exhibits positive allometric shell growth and changes its shape during life.

Notes: Abstract Early developmental stages of theAnemonia germ are characterized by asynchronously dividing nuclei and an extreme delay of blastomere differentiation. The nuclei migrate to the periphery, whereas nutritive substances remain in the interior. Following this stage, the appearance of cell boundaries results in the formation of the blastoderm and the simultaneous division of the yolk into many fragments. Most of them are exclusively filled with reserve material; only very few contain zooxanthellae or nuclei. On the embryo's surface, conically shaped bundles of long microvilli are obvious. They appear to be less regularly arranged than the spines of oocytes before insemination. Pigment granules that have originated from fusing Golgi vesicles are crowded peripherally in the blastoderm cells. In the nucleoplasm single annulate lamellae that seem to be cut off from the nuclear envelope can frequently be found. There is no further cellular differentiation until gastrulation is completed. Though yolk-containing cellular fragments occupy nearly the whole blastocoel, entoderm formation occurs by invagination. Ultrastructural observations provide evidence of the existence of interstices between entoderm cells that allow all nutritive substances to pass gradually into the gastric cavity. In the region of the blastoporus there are cellular processes enveloping reserve material. Presumably, these observations indicate a so-called “filtration of nutritive yolk” (Korschelt & Heider, 1909) that might represent an additional mode for the transfer of yolk-containing cellular fragments from blastocoel into gastrocoel.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The potentiometric behaviour of poly(methacrylic acid) was investigated in the presence of the structure breaker urea and the structure maker xylose. For purposes of comparison measurements on poly(acrylic acid) and acetic acid were carried out. Thereby the conception that the presence of urea reduces the abnormal behaviour of hydrophobic polyacids is confirmed. Instead of the expected increase in cooperativity in the case of a xylose content only an insignificant decrease is observed. This finding is discussed with regard to the causes of the stabilization of the coil and the character of the abnormal change of conformation. The titration curves obtained in the presence of urea are evaluated considering the fact that urea is able to bind H+ ions.

Notes: Abstract Given an incomplete rotation curve of a spiral galaxy, various assumptions about the Galaxy beyond the last observed point are made: (A) the force falls off as 1/r 2, (B) the mass density is zero, and (C) the mass density falls off as 1/r 3. The msss distributions obtained from each of these assumptions are all well behaved, and it is impossible to choose the correct curve from considerations of the resulting mass distributions alone. The correct mass distribution in the disk system of a galaxy cannot be deduced from an incomplete rotation curve.

Notes: Abstract 77Br has been investigated by the reaction64Ni(16O,p2nγ) at 60 MeV. The following mean lives (in parentheses) have been determined by the recoil distance Doppler shift method (energies in keV): 161.9 (718±50 ps), 575.2 (14.2±2.1 ps), 639.0 (14.1±0.8 ps), 782.0 (4.3±0.9 ps), 790.1 (6.2±0.8 ps), 1,273.2 (4.0±1.0 ps), 1,303.0 (4.0±1 ps), 1,480.8 (0.6 ±0.2 ps). The resultingB(E2) values are compared with rotor plus particle calculations. Nuclear reaction64Ni(16O,p2nγ)E 0=60 MeV; measuredE γ, recoil distance Doppler shift; deducedT 1/2. Notes: Abstract Mass andZ-distributions of fusion products from the reaction 5.8 MeV/u46Ti+12C were measured in the angular range betweenθ lab=1.5° and 8° using a time-of-flightΔE−E telescope. The results are compared with an earlier measurement of the reaction32 S+26Mg, in which the same compound nucleus was produced at higher excitation energy. The residual nuclide distributions are interpreted with the aid of evaporation calculations and the influence of shell effects in the level densities is discussed. The data are consistent with the assumption that the shell effects vanish above 15 to 20 MeV excitation energy, that is, that they are essentially only important for the last evaporation step.

Notes: Summary The reaction of malononitrile with α-chloro acetanilides1 in presence of potassium carbonate yields the 1-aryl-5-oxo-Δ2-pyrrolin-3-carbonitriles2, in presence of triethylamine the 4,6-diamino-1-aryl-2-oxo-2,3-dihydropyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-5-carbonitriles3 are formed. From 2-chloroacetylamino-benzencarbonitrile and malononitrile the 5-amino-1-oxo-1,2-dihydropyrrolo[1,2-a]chinazolin-3-carbonitrile (4) arise. Analogously from the 2-chloroacetylamino-thiophen-3-carbonitries5 the 7,8-dihydro-thieno[3,2-e]pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrimidine derivatives6 are obtainable. Hydrolysis of2 a by treatment with hydroxide or acid, respectively, yields the 1,1,2-ethanetricarboxylic acid and derivatives9 a,b. Phenyldiazonium salt reacts with2 to form the triazene 7 only.

Notes: Abstract The Cyclization of 2-(1,1-dicyanovinylamino)-thiophenes2 by treatment with AlCl3 yield 4-amino-5-cyano-thieno[2,3-b]pyridines3. 2-(1-acylvinyl-amino)-3-cyano-thiophenes7, obtainable from 2-amino-3-cyano-thiophenes and β-diketones, react in the presence of AlCl3 to form 4-acylamino-thieno[2,3-b] pyridines8. This reaction is connected with the transfer of the acyl group from C- to the N-atom. 4-Amino-5-cyano-thieno[2,3-b]pyridones-(6)11 are synthesized from 2-amino-3-cyano-thiophenes and ethyl cyano acetate in the presence of sodium ethoxide.
