    Notes: Fourteen isozymatk loci have been analyzed in 23 samples of populations belonging to genus Secale by starch gel electrophoresis. The allelic frequencies for these loci have also been estimated and used in calculating genetic identity values between populations. Isozymatic data agree with the hypothesis that there are four species in the genus Secale: S. cereale, S. montanum, S. silvestre, and S. vavilovii. The characteristics of growth and outbreeding habits, and the isozymatic variability along with the previously known cytogenetic data, maintain S. montanum as the probable ancestor of the other three species: two are self-pollinated and monomorphic for isozymes (S. silvestre and S. vavilovii) and the other is open-pollinated and variable (S. cereale) and dearly distinguishable by its genetic variability from the other two. Finally, from isozymatic data it is not possible to distinguish between populations belonging to S. montanum and populations, belonging to. S. cereale.

    Notes: Ultrafiltration was applied to regenerate brines from green table olive fermentations. Experiments were conducted to select optimum membrane pore size and working conditions, as well as effects on characteristics of brines and olives packed with these regenerated brines. According to the results, good decoloration of such solutions was achieved with polysulfonate membranes of 1,000 daltons pore size. Best working conditions were : 18 bars, room temperature, room temperature (25°C), and without any previous filtration. Very low reduction of NaCl and slight decrease of lactic acid were noted. No effect on the quality of packed olives with the treated brines was detected.

    Notes: Summary Polarographic Behaviour of Alizarincomplexan, Anodic Wave and Its Analytical Applications The polarographic DPP and DC techniques have been utilized to carry out the study of the anodic wave of alizarincomplexan (AC) in aqueous medium. At pH〉5.7 the anodic current is produced by the complex formed between the AC and Hg(II) proceeding from the dropping electrode. At pH=7.3 theE 1/2 of this anodic wave is 0.000 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The main characteristics of the wave have been studied, and the corresponding electrode mechanism process is proposed. Since Hg(II) forms a complex with AC, a method for the amperometric determination of Hg(II) is proposed. We have also studied the analytical possibilities for doubly charged ions which form complexes with the reagent, and an amperometric method for Co(II) determination is also proposed.

    Notes: Abstract Our aim in this paper the first one of a series concerned with the problem of field quantization starting from the symplectic structure underlying the classical theory, is to build up the variational theory necessary to all further constructions. The basic notions are the vertical bundle $$\bar B$$ and thestructure 1-form θ used to define thegeneralized infinitesimal contact transformation which allows us to state and solve the variational problem related to field physics.Giving a system of modulevalued differential forms of different degree on the vertical bundle which solutions are the stationary cross sections is the main result in the paper. In this scheme the Euler-Lagrange classical equations are the expressions induced by such a system of differential forms on any cross section of the vertical bundle. This gives us a complete linearization of the Euler-Lagrange equations and, starting from it, a natural globalization of these equations. Finally, the notion of variational problem invariant by a Lie group is defined in this scheme, Noether's theorem related to such invariant problem is formulated and an intrinsic version of the so-called Noether invariants of classical variational calculus is obtained.

    Notes: Summary Genetic analyses were conducted on peroxidase of the embryo and endosperm of seeds of one open pollinated and six inbred lines of cultivated rye (Secale cereale L.), and one line of Secale vavilovii Grossh. The analyses of the individual parts of the S. cereale seed yield a total of 14 peroxidase isozymes. Isozymes m, a, b, c, d, e, f and g (in order from faster to slower migration) were found in the embryo plus scutellum, while isozymes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (also from faster to slower migration) were peculiar of the endosperm. S. vavilovii has isozymes m, c1, d, e, f and g in its embryo plus scutellum, and isozyme 2 in the endosperm. Segregation data indicated that at least 13 different loci would be controlling the peroxidase of S. cereale. Isozymes a and b are controlled by alleles of the same locus, all the other loci have one active and dominant allele coding for one isozyme, and other null and recessive allele. The estimation of linkage relationships shows that five endosperm loci are linked, and tentative maps are shown. A possible dosage effect and the existence of controlling gene(s) for endosperm isozyme 4 is reported. All these data and the high frequency of null alleles found are discussed in relation to recent reports.
