Abstract The rotating flow between coaxial disks in a radially confined geometry is studied by numerical integration of the full Navier-Stokes equations. The results indicate that both Batchelor's and Stewartson's flow structures can be observed near the axis of rotation, depending on what conditions are set at the peripheral boundary.
