Abstract The anion, [(μ2-H)Os3(CO)10(μ2-CO)]−, reacts with the donor ligand EPh3 (E=P or As) to produce, as an intermediate in the reaction to the substituted anion [(μ2-H)Os3(CO)9(μ2-CO)(EPh3)]−, a moderately stable formyl derivative which we tentatively formulate as [Os3(CO)9(η2-CHO)(EPh3)]−.
