Notes: It is shown that the Beltrami equation has an infinite-dimensional symmetry, namely the Beltrami algebra, on its solution spaces. The Beltrami algebra with central extension and its supersymmetric version are explicitly found.

Notes: In this paper all the potential constraints (with or without first-order partial derivatives) of the KP system, from which the associated linear problem can be restricted into a (1+1)-dimensional Hamiltonian equation, are obtained by using the sufficient and necessary condition for a nonlinear equation to be a Hamiltonian system. Some well-known integrable systems, such as (1+1)-dimensional AKNS system, generalized NS system, and several new Hamiltonian equations, are deduced as particular examples.

Notes: The irreducible representations of the braid groups, described by the Young patterns, are obtained in terms of a set of commutant operators. The relations between our representations and the monodromy representations based on the minimal representation of the quantum enveloping algebra Uqsl(2) are discussed briefly.

Notes: Abstract A fundamental problem in molecular biology is the determination of the conformation of macromolecules from NMR data. Several successful distance geometry programs have been developed for this purpose, for example DISGEO. A particularly difficult facet of these programs is the embedding problem, that is the problem of determining those conformations whose distances between atoms are nearest those measured by the NMR techniques. The embedding problem is the distance geometry equivalent of the multiple minima problem, which arises in energy minimization approaches to conformation determination. We show that the distance geometry approach has some nice geometry not associated with other methods that allows one to prove detailed results with regard to the location of local minima. We exploit this geometry to develop some algorithms which are faster and find more minima than the algorithms presently used.

Notes: Abstract The simplex methods of nonlinear forecasting are used to study the data sets of hepatitis A and AIDS in various regions of the United States. The results are compared with those obtained from the traditional ARIMA methods. In many regions, the simplex methods developed from nonlinear dynamical system theory give smaller errors for the data of hepatitis A. A combination of the simplex methods and the traditional ARIMA methods can produce better results for the AIDS data sets.

Notes: Abstract We establish that the category of hological spaces is equipped for calculus with complex scalars. This provides a theory of infinite dimensional holomorphy which allows maps to have nonconvex domains with empty interior. Some relatively elementary functions, hitherto excluded by the restrictive definitions of other theories, emerge as holomorphic maps.

    Notes: Summary LetA 1,A 2, ⋯,A m ,C 1,C 2, ⋯,C n be events on a given probability speace. LetV m andU n , respectively, be the numbers among theA i 's andC j 's which occur.Upper and lower bounds ofP(V m ⩾1, U n ⩾1) are obtained by means of the bivariate binomial moments. These extend recent univariate optimal Bonferroni-type inequalities.
