    Notizen: Abstract Certain bivariate densities constructed from marginals have recently been suggested as models of hydrologic variates such as rainfall intensity and depth. It is pointed out that (i) these densities belong to the families of the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern densities and the Farlie polynomial densities, which have been extensively studied in the statistical literature, and that (ii) these densities have a limited potential applicability in hydrology since they can model only weakly associated variates, whose product-moment correlationR is within the range |R|≤1/3, under the first family of densities, and |R|≤1/2 under the second family.

    Notizen: Abstract The helical DNA polymer provides many structural features that facilitate the binding of metal ions or complexes. DNA binding inorganic agents have proven invaluable, with demonstrated applications ranging from chemotherapeutic agents to probes of DNA structure. This broad range of applications attests to the utility of inorganic agents in the design of compounds which interact with the DNA helix and is due, in part, to the ability of inorganic species to define a particular ligand geometry complementary to the DNA structure, bind, or chemically react along the polymer strand. While a diverse array of novel inorganic compounds that interact with DNA have already been studied, many opportunities still exist to exploit inorganic agents in the design of new molecules that will interact uniquely with the DNA polymer. This review examines the structure of the DNA polymer, emphasizing aspects which promote the binding of inorganic agents. Along with a structural overview, the binding modes available to an inorganic element or complex are reviewed, in combination with a discussion of the ability of the DNA to act as a template for the organized binding of inorganic agents. In addition, chemical alteration of the DNA polymer structure by inorganic agents is discussed, along with the potential utility of such modifications.

    Notizen: Abstract Two products were isolated at a result of esterification of acrylic acid with 4-[4-(n-hydroxyundecanyloxy)phenyl] benzoic acid (5) One is 4-[4-(n-acryloloxy-undecanyloxy)phenyl] benzoic acid (6), and the other is 4-{4-[n-(3-acryloloxy-propionyloxy)undecanyloxy]phenyl}benzoic acid (7) which containts two molecules of acrylic acid. Compound7 is obtained unexpectedly and still unknown in the literature. Its identification is confirmed by the isolation and characterization of the monomer9. The mesogenic monomers8 and9 which were synthesized from 4-hydroxyphenyl 2(S)-[2(S)-methylbutoxylpropionate (4) and the corresponding acrylates6 and7 exhibit the enentiotropic Sc* and SA phases. The Sc* phase temperature range is up to 31 °C. The spontaneous polarization and response time for the monomers8 and9 is 97 and 16 nC/cm2 as well as 90 and 64 µs respectively. It us the liquid crystal side chain polymer11, not10, which is switchable in the presence of an electric field. The spontaneous polarization of 36 nC/cm2 and the response time of 3.1 ms is obtain from the new polyacrylate.

    Notizen: Abstract Prepolymers of polyamide-imide was synthesized with excess MDI and TMA in NMP. The resulting isocyanate terminated prepolymers mixed with silicon compound were heated. The chemical reaction and properties of the resulting polymers are studied with IR, NMR, TGA as well as dynamic mechanical measurement. Observation of experiments reveals that the addition of γ-APS enhances the crosslinking. The modified polyamide-imides exhibit excellent adhesion on glass. And the activation energy of cross-linking reaction as measured from DSC is 72 KJ/mole. The drastic weight loss of the post cured polymer took place at 500°C.

    Notizen: Abstract Transnational pollution is formulated as a differential game between two sovereign governments. The symmetric open loop Nash equilibrium is shown to yield more pollution than in a cooperative solution. A model of Stackelberg leadership in pollution control is also investigated. The possibility of limit cycles is illustrated, using bifurcation theory.

    Notizen: Abstract A series of alumina aluminum borate (AAB) with various Al/B molar ratios were prepared by the coprecipitation method. The supported rhenium oxide catalysts with various contents of Re2O7 were also prepared by the impregnation method with perrhenic acid. The catalytic activity and stability of Re2O7/AAB catalysts for the reaction of propylene metathesis were tested in a fixed-bed microreactor. It was found that Re2O7/AAB is more active, stable and regenerable than Re2O7/Al2O3 for propylene metathesis. The optimum Al/B molar ratio was found to be in the range of 4–10.

    Notizen: Abstract Several tris or bis(o-aminobenzenethiolato)metal complexes, where metals include ruthenium, rhodium, rhenium, molybdenum, platinum, and palladium, were synthesized. They were used as precursors to active metal sulfide catalysts for dehydrogenative oligomerization of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (THQ). The conversion of metal complex precursors to the corresponding metal sulfides was carried outin situ in the THQ solution at 210–270 °C. These metal sulfides polymerized THQ to quinoline oligomers in 71–95% yield. We also observed a periodic trend on the activity of these catalysts showing a maximum oligomer yield with ruthenium sulfide.
