Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Halbwellenpotentiale,E 1/2, von Fe(Ligand) 6 3+ als ClO 4 − Salz [Ligand=N,N-dimethylformamid (dmf), Acetamid (aa), N,N-dimethylacetamid (dma), Trimethylphosphat (tmp), Dimethylsulfoxid (dmso) und Acetonitril (MeCN)] bestimmt.
Notes: Summary Half-wave potentials,E 1/2, of Fe(ligand) 6 3+/2+ , as ClO 4 − salt, [ligand=N,N-dimethylformamide (dmf), acetamide (aa), N,N-dimethylacetamide (dma), trimethylphosphate (tmp), dimethylsulfoxide (dmso), and acetonitrile (MeCN) are given. A linear correlation betweenE 1/2 and Gutmann's donor numbers of the ligands, a parameter which expresses quantitatively the Lewis donor properties towards hard acceptors, was found. Ligand replacement on Fe(ligand) 6 3+ in acetonitrile-d 3 was studied by means of1H-NMR spectroscopy at 20°C. An average number of ligands coordinated to Fe3+,n coord, is given.n coord increases with the ligand's donor strength; i.e.tmp〈dmf〈dmso.

Notes: Summary Two novel restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) around the DXS115 (767) locus, detectable with the restriction enzymes MspI, are described. Since DXS115 is closely linked to the factor VIII gene (F8C), the MspI RFLP was employed in haemophilia A carrier detection. The utility of these RFLPs lies in the increased applicability and accuracy of diagnoses carried out in cases where available intragenic markers are uninformative.

Notes: Synopsis Geographical variation of three meristic characters, the number of pored scales in lateral line (LL), the number of branchial spines on the first gill arch (SPBR) and the number of transverse scale rows (SQU), were studied in the cyprinid fishRhodeus sericeus and their validity for subspecific discrimination was tested. Counts investigated were taken from population samples at 23 localities covering an area of about 68° geographical longitude (2°40 W – 49°30 E and 128°00 E – 143°00 E), and about 15° geographical latitude (37°30 N – 52°00 N). All three characters manifested a distinct clinal variation. LL, SQU and SPBR closely followed the species' essentially longitudinal distribution. The number of segments was also related to latitude, elevation, mean annual air temperature and fish size. Bergmann's rule was fully demonstrated for fishes and at the species level. Local regional differences were found within particular regions, indicating the existence ofsubclines. Variation of truly isolated populations seems to be predictable and dependent on the clines found in adjacent populations. None of the counts investigated, including a key character (number of pored scales in LL), can be used to distinguishamarus fromsericeus. Owing to sufficient evidence that meristic and morphometric characters used to distinguish fish subspecies succumb to the clinal variation controlled by various factors, the concept of subspecies and trinomial nomenclature is inefficient, superfluous and misleading, and should be excluded from taxonomy, nomenclature and ecology.

Notes: Abstract With the end of the Cold War, the major trend of the next century will be the development of competitive export economies in third world countries. In this paper, an on-going experiment in Mexico is reported. The experiment features the transfer of technology with a minimum adverse environmental impact. The goal is to develop sustainable integration into global markets by transferring technology that is both cost and quality competitive and environmentally safe. The target group is Mexican subsistence producers.

Notes: Abstract As societies and cultures are changed, technology transfer is an integral part of the process of creating a new world order. A primary question is whether technology transfer serves as a force for good or evil. Based on some of the recent history of the United States and the impact oftechnology transfer upon a small group of tribal people in India, this article discusses the need for a social impact analysis approach to ameliorate the negative effects of rapid changes caused by unregulated technology transfer.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract This experimental work deals with the influence of fatigue on the properties of the antimony cesium (Cs3Sb) photocathode sensitized with oxygen. Photocells of special construction were prepared for the measurement and they were fatigued by illuminating them with white light from a tungsten lamp. The effect of fatigue on the spectral response curve, on the optical properties, values of activating energies, type of conductivity, current-voltage curves and integral sensitivity were investigated. In connection with the fatigue a shift of the long wavelength threshold towards shorter wavelengths, a decrease of response in the whole spectral range, changes in absorption and a drop in the value of the refractive index were observed. The maximum values of the activation energies, determined from measurements of the temperature dependence of the dark conductivity did not change. The conductivity of the photocathode was found to be of thep-type. The fatigue had certain effects on the current-voltage curves, the starting point of the anode current and the saturation point showing a certain shift towards lower positive anode voltages with fatigue. The relation between the fatigue and temperature rise of the photocathode due to the absorption of radiation was investigated. Finally some problems related to the mechanism of photoemission from the photocathodes are discussed.
