Notes: The tolerances of imperfections of superconducting bending magnets in a compact storage ring have been estimated. The storage ring, which is under construction, is a race-tracked type with combined function bending magnets. A tracking code "providence,'' which calculates a particle's orbit with a numerical integration of exact equations of motion has been used. The results of calculating dynamic apertures with modelized three-dimensional (3-D) magnetic fields show that multipole errors must be suppressed with (sextupole errors) ≤20[T/m2], (octupole errors) ≤110[T/m3], where the dynamic aperture is defined as a stable amplitude area with nominal aperture limitation in this paper. The dynamic aperture with actual magnetic fields has been also calculated. The result shows that the superconducting bending magnets have enough good field regions, and that the ring has a sufficient dynamic aperture: ||x||(approximately-equal-to)30 mm and ||y||(approximately-equal-to)50 mm.

Notes: An 800-MeV compact storage ring is under construction for development of the technology of a compact ring and for research of x-ray lithography and material analysis. Synchrotron radiation with a critical wavelength of 0.65 nm is emitted from a pair of superconducting bending magnets. A straight section of the ring has only one quadrupole magnet to make the smaller ring. An injection efficiency with a single kicker magnet is optimized by computer simulation. The kicker field strength and an injection angle are determined. A beam tracking with a numerical integration method shows this ring has a sufficiently wide dynamic aperture of ||x||(approximately-equal-to)30 mm and ||y||(approximately-equal-to)50 mm at the center of the bending magnet, which has βxmin and βymax. A 1-GeV synchrotron is used as an injector, which has accelerated a beam up to 1 GeV.

Notes: Abstract Peptide YY (PYY) is thought to possess paracrine and endocrine functions. The highest concentrations of this peptide are in the colonic mucosa. The effect of PYY on electrolyte and water transport in the rat colon was studied in vivo. Under urethane anesthesia, rat colonic loops were perfused at a constant rate with physiological buffer solution containing phenol red as a nonabsorbable volume marker, and net movements of water, sodium, chloride and potassium in the perfused colon were determined every 10 min. Intravenous administration of PYY produced a dose-dependent increase in the net absorption of sodium chloride and water, as well as a decrease in the net secretion of potassium. PYY inhibited the reduction in net absorption of sodium chloride and water evoked by vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), but did not affect the VIP-evoked increase in net potassium secretion. These findings suggest that PYY acts as an enhancer of sodium chloride and water absorption and as an antagonist to VIP-induced secretion in the colon.

Notes: Summary The stylar transmitting tissue in the mature pistil of the Japanese pear consists of its component cells and intercellular heterogeneous secretions. The cytoplasm of the periplasmic region contains two different organelles that are characteristic of floral bud development. One of these is the vesicle, which is derived from rough ER and transferred to the periplasmic region of the cell during an early stage of the floral bud. The other one is the lipid droplet, which reacts to polysaccharidic staining and is seen throughout floral bud development. The lipid droplets are closely associated with the Golgi bodies and seem to be dissolved in the vacuole. The materials found in the vacuoles appear to diffuse and pass through the cell walls as intercellular substances.

Notes: Abstract Plutonium 239,240 was measured using large-volume water samples from the North Pacific and its adjacent seas. The vertical profiles of239,240Pu show features that are similar to those reported in earlier papers with a subsurface maxima of around 660 m and a significant concentration increase in the North Pacific bottom waters. It became evident that the239,240Pu concentration in deep bottom water is proportional to the inventory of the nuclides in the overlying water column and that the appearent distribution ratios of the nuclides between deep-sea sediment and bottom water lie in a relatively narrow range of about 2×104 to 105, independent of sea area and warter depth. The latter implies that239,240Pu may follow a reversible-type partition process at a deep water/sediment interface. In order to substantiate this assumption, it is desirable to study the phenomenon for Pu as well as for other long-lived radionuclides, both artificial and natural. From this point of view, an analytical procedure for the successive determination of selected long-lived radionuclides was studied.

Notes: Abstract In this investigation, the solution of the nonlinear dynamic equations of the multibody tracked vehicle systems are obtained using different procedures. In the first technique, which is based on the augmented formulation that employes the absolute Cartesian coordinates and Lagrange multipliers, the generalized coordinate partitioning of the constraint Jacobian matrix is used to determine the independent coordinates and the associated independent differential equations. An iterative Newton-Raphson algorithm is used to solve the nonlinear constraint equations for the dependent variables. The numerical problems encountered when one set of independent coordinates is used during the simulation of large scale tracked vehicle systems are demonstrated and their relationship to the track dynamics is discussed. The second approach employed in this investigation is the velocity transformation technique. One of the versions of this technique is discussed in this paper and the numerical problems that arise from the use of inconsistent system of kinematic equations are reported. In the velocity transformation technique, the tracked vehicle system is assumed to consist of two kinematically decoupled subsystems; the first subsystem consists of the chassis, the rollers, the sprocket and the idler, while the second subsystem consists of the track which is represented as a closed kinematic chain that consists of rigid links connected by revolute joints. It is demonstrated that the use of one set of recursive equations leads to numerical difficulties because of the change in the track configuration. Singular configurations can be avoided by repeated changes in the recursive equations. The sensitivity of the predictor-corrector multistep numerical integration schemes to the method of formulating the state equations is demonstrated. The numerical results presented in this investigation are obtained using a planner tracked vehicle model that consists of fifty four rigid bodies.

Notes: Micro capillary columns were successfully applied to liquid chromatography by employing the principles used in micro high performance liquid chromatography. Fundamental investigations on the use of capillary columns in LC were performed for the various column parameters. Good separations of five aromatic hydrocarbons and four kinds of phthalic esters were obtained on a 62 μm I.D. capillary column, coated with SE-30.

Notes: Capillary columns in gas chromatography, first proposed by Golay [1,2], have become well established [3] which have extremely high column efficiencies and separabilities. Everyone could imagine it to be a great tool if such a kind of high efficiency column could be established in liquid chromatography (LC). Microcapillary liquid chromatography (MCLC) may be one way of achieving high-efficiency in terms of theoretical plates. Few papers were published in this field before 1976 [4-6], but more recently, after 1977 [7-15], this field has become one of topical interest in liquid chromatography. Temporarily there are two microcapillary liquid chromatography, that is: „open-tubular“ [7,8,10-15] and „packed“ [9] MCLC. In this presentation we focus on open-tubular microcapillary liquid chromatography and a review contemporary developments of ours and others.
