Notes: Abstract Heavy quark production at future Compton colliders is investigated. The impact of polarization has been studied. Perturbative QCD corrections to the effective cross section are calculated and found to be at the level of 40% for ae + e − collider of 500 GeV and a top quark mass of 150 GeV. The η t resonance structure is incorporated.

Notes: Abstract Effects from an extended Higgs sector on the partial widths $$\Gamma _{{\rm Z} \to b\bar b} $$ and $$\Gamma _{{\rm Z} \to \tau ^ + \tau ^ - } $$ are analysed with emphasis on enhanced Yukawa couplings to the fermions with the weak isospinT 3=−1/2. Contributions from charged and neutral Higgs bosons are incorporated. Vertex corrections from a heavy top quark and from charged Higgs bosons are always negative. One can however find regions in the parameter space where neutral Higgs bosons lead to positive vertex corrections. The charged Higgs bosons decouple from the ratio $$\Gamma ^{_{{\rm Z} \to \tau ^ + \tau ^ - } } /\Gamma ^{_{{\rm Z} \to \mu ^ + \mu ^ - } } $$ if their mass is beyond 80 GeV. This ratio is then sensitive to the neutral sector only.

Notes: Abstract We use a simple renormalization group argument to demonstrate that the large top mass limit of the axial neutral current in QCD is unambiguously determined by the renormalization of the singlet axial current which suggests a natural scheme independent normalization condition for the latter. By calculating the anomalous dimension of the singlet axial current at three-loop level in the $$\overline {MS}$$ scheme we derive the result for the top quark decoupling from the axial neutral current valid up to (and including) the terms of order α s 2 .

Notes: Abstract A systematic study of angular momentum dissipation in deep-inelastic heavy ion collisions is carried out by combining two experimental methods: the angular correlation ofα particles and protons in coincidence with deeply inelastic light fragments; and the first two moments of theγ-ray multiplicity. The unified analysis of these data, using a quantum mechanical treatment of the particle anisotropies and statistical decay calculations, yields most probable fragment spinsI 0=10.8±1.1ħ and 13.4±1.1ħ for58Ni and62Zn, respectively, close to the sticking limit. For the width of the vector spin distribution assumed in our analysis to be equal in all three directions we obtainσ=3.9±1.3 ħ and 2.9±1.8ħ for58Ni and62Zn, respectively. These values correspond to most probable alignment parameters 〈P zz〉=0.66±0.19 and 0.82±0.17 for58Ni and62Zn, respectively. As only very few partial waves of this light system undergo deep-inelastic scattering,σ directly relates to spin fluctuations, and is compared to asymptotic values from transport theories.

Notes: Abstract Energy- and angular correlations ofα particles in coincidence with deeply inelastic fragments from32S+93Nb reactions at 313 MeV were measured and the assumption of sequentialα emission from the fragments tested. In the direction of the detected light fragment too fewα particles from the heavy fragment are observed. This pronounced anomaly is ascribed to nuclear shadowing of theα particles by the proximate light fragment.

Notes: Abstract Energy levels, production and decay rates of toponiumP-states are calculated and their dependence on different assumptions on the short distance part of the potential is studied. The branching ratio for radiative decays to lower lyingS-states will be very large. Weak decays ofP-states will play an important role for quark masses above 25 GeV. Experimental consequences of our results are discussed.

Notes: Abstract SelectedRhizobium bacteria, arbuscular mycorrhiza-forming (AM) fungi and associative bacteria have been shown to stimulate the growth of legumes, gramineae and cruciferae in field experiments on different soil types in temperate regions. A combination of microorganisms with different metabolic capacities (N2-fixation, P-mobilization; production of phytohormones and antibiotics) can partly surpass the effect of single inoculations, or can produce a positive effect where single inoculations are ineffective. Growth stimulation by inoculation requires microorganisms with phytoeffective metabolic characteristics and the ability to survive in the rhizosphere during the growth period. Another prerequisite is an adequate supply of plant assimilates for the production of microbial phytoeffective metabolites. Type of inoculum, method of inoculation and agricultural measures can influence the effect of the inoculation. Research is necessary to extend our knowledge both of basic principles, and about using microorganisms in practice.

Notes: Abstract The reconstruction of an in-line Fraunhofer (far-field) hologram is re-examined, and an analytical solution of the intensity distribution throughout the entire reconstructed image is presented. The solution bridges the gap between previously documented solutions which are limited to the plane-of-focus image and distant out-of-focus images. The analysis is motivated by a particle velocity measurement technique which attempts to distinguish the focussed image by photographic thresholding. The general methodology is presented for objects of one- and two-dimensional cross-section. Specific results are presented for the single exposure holograms of a long wire and a small particle of circular cross-section. The one-dimensional solution is verified experimentally. The results show precisely how the Fresnel diffraction term creates peaks in the intensity distribution, both upstream and downstream of the focussed image. This characteristic limits the resolution of methods which use thresholding as a means of distinguishing focussed images from their out-of-focus neighbors.

Notes: Abstract Tetracycline marking of otoliths can be achieved by osmotic importation at fertilization when hardening is conducted in tetracycline solutions. Marks produced are recognizable even in fish of catchable size without a very extensive otolith preparation. The method can contribute to estimations of stocking efficiency and to discern recruits of natural and artificial reproduction.
