Notes: The new frames in physics has united the physics of materials and a new terminology of supercorresponding c- and q-number systems is introduced for the classical and quantal physics. In the q-number system, the electron field as represented by the Schrödinger or Dirac wave function is regarded as the electron itself, which interacts with the zero-point photon field and gives the mass renormalization. The new frames can analyze this subject without the divergence difficulty. The resultant decrease in the self-energy of the electron of about 1 eV is proposed to be dependent on the environmental crystal situation, and may become cooperative to generate coherence to the conduction electron-photon coupled system. Our basic c-number equation includes the vector potential of the interacting photon field, the microscopic electronic electric current, the frequency of the considered photon field, the original plasma frequency of the conduction electrons, and an equivalent frequency and the resonance frequency of the bound-state electrons. Placing reasonable values for these constants, we get a detailed k-ω diagram for the photon-electron field complex. By the action of the bound-state electrons, the original plasma frequency of about 4 eV is separated into two, with the lower value of about 1.7 eV (2.6×1015 s−1). This branch crosses the free-photon mode near the same frequency, opening a sharp narrow window for the zero-point free-photon field. The Fermi frequency of the conduction electrons is about the same with the wavelength of about 10 A(ring), which may fit one of the crystal dimensions. The zero-point photon-electron field complex at this frequency may couple to the electron field at the Fermi level through the induced zero-point ripple electron field. The Heisenberg uncertainty, ΔEΔt≥(h-dash-bar), may operate to the window for generating the longer time-space coherence. We call this mechanism CRCG (crystallo-radiative coherence generator).

Notes: Abstract In a study of the reaction K+ p → K* (890)π+ p at 12 GeV/c it has been shown that the extrapolated moments in thet channel for the π+ p system do not agree very well with those calculated from the real π+ p elastic scattering phase shifts for π+ p effective masses larger than 1.4 GeV, and that theQ is dominant in this region even for very small momentum transfer. In the present work it is shown that a simple parametrization of theQ leads to a considerably better description of the extrapolated 〈Y 0 2 〉, 〈Y 0 3 〉 and 〈Y 0 4 〉 moments. Furthermore it is shown that the dominance of theQ in this region will lead to high order moments at low mass in thes-channel frame.

Notes: Abstract Maximal immersions of a surfaceM 2 inton-dimensional Lorentz space which are isometric to a fixed holomorphic mapping ofM 2 into complex Lorentz space are determined. The main tool is an adaption of Calabi's Rigidity Theorem. Such an adaption is necessary because of the existence of degenerate hyperplanes in complex Lorentz space.

Notes: Abstract We compared the effect of orally administered 100 mg of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) among eight patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) type I, 11 patients with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism (IHP), and 12 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (1oHPT). Patients with PHP type I or with IHP were studied during the treatment with 1α-hydroxylated metabolites of vitamin D3. HCTZ raised serum levels of calcium (Ca) in 1oHPT (P〈0.001) and PHP type I (P〈0.01) but did not increase urinary excretion of Ca. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) in PHP type I decreased (P〈0.02) after HCTZ administration in response to the increase in serum Ca. HCTZ did not raise serum levels of Ca in IHP but increased urinary excretion of Ca in this group (P〈0.01). HCTZ suppressed tubular reabsorption of phosphate (P) in IHP (P〈0.01) and 1oHPT (P〈0.05) but not in PHP type I. Urinary excretion of cAMP did not change after HCTZ administration in PHP type I, IHP, or 1oHPT. Endogenous PTH modulated the effects of HCTZ on Ca mobilization from bone and renal reabsorption of Ca in PHP type I with normal or high serum levels of PTH and in 1oHPT with high serum levels of PTH. The inhibitory effect of HCTZ on renal tubular reabsorption of P (probably from proximal tubules) was independent of PTH. The resistance to this inhibitory effect of HCTZ on P reabsorption in PHP type I suggested a proximal tubular dysfunction in this disorder.

Notes: Summary Genetic polymorphism of human factor I (C3b inactivator) has been described using polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing electrophoresis of neuraminidase-treated EDTA plasma samples followed by electrophoretic blotting technique. In 435 individuals three different common patterns were observed, and these were controlled by two common alleles at a single locus. The results of typing family material confirmed autosomal codominant Mendelian inheritance. Two common alleles were designated FI*B and FI*A, and gene frequencies were estimated to be 0.8931 and 0.1069 for FI*B and FI*A, respectively. The distribution of phenotypes fitted the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Linkage studies failed to show close linkage between factor I and the major histocompatibility complex.

Notes: Summary Polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing followed by electroblotting with enzyme immunoassay was done for the investigation of allotypes of properdin factor B (BF) in serum from 326 Japanese subjects. A new BF F variant tentatively designated BF*Fb1 (b=basic) was detected, the isoelectric point of each band of homozygous BF Fb1 being higher than of BF FF. Family data were in accordance with transmission by mendelian inheritance. The allele frequencies calculated from 326 Japanese subjects were 0.7945, 0.1825, 0.0215, and 0.0015 for BF*S, BF*F, BF*Fb1, and BF*F075, respectively, with that of variant BF*Fb1 being a polymorphic frequency. The distribution of phenotypes fitted the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

Notes: Summary We have evaluated the effect of prostaglandin E1(PGE1) on renal function after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass in 20 patients, ten of whom received 0.02 μg·kg−1·min−1 of PGE1 by infusion into the oxygenator during bypass; ten patients served as controls. Serum β2-microglobulin fell significantly and urine β2-microglobulin increased significantly after surgery in both groups. Urine N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase was high after surgery in both groups, but it was significantly lower in the PGE1 group. Free water clearance fell significantly on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th postoperative days compared with preoperative values in the control but not in the PGE1 group. These results suggest that PGE1 may prevent renal dysfunction after cardiopulmonary bypass.

Notes: Summary A distorted segregation of esterase alleles at the complex loci, Est1, Est2 and Est4, was found in an F2 population. This distortion is typical for cross combinations between the Ga2Ga2 and ga2ga2 genotypes responsible for segregation distortion, since the Ga2 locus is linked with the complex loci encoding the esterase isozymes. The segregation of esterase isozyme patterns in F2 populations between 473 varieties of barley and a tester of ga2ga2 genotype was examined, and the genotypes inducing segregation distortion were detected. Varieties with a ga2ga2 genotype are widely distributed throughout the world, whereas Ga2Ga2 varieties are found only in eastern and southern regions of Asia, from Japan to North India, with a low frequency. In varieties collected from these regions, some associations were detected between alleles at the Ga2 locus and esterase isozyme patterns. Additionally, most of the Ga2 barley varieties are naked and possess a BtBtbt2bt2 genotype for a non-brittle rachis.

Notes: Abstract We mapped two loci for ADP-ribosylation factor homologues (ARF1, ARF2) and two loci for cysteine proteinase inhibitors (oryzacystatin-I and -II: OCI, OCII) by linkage analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphism loci in rice (Oryza sativa L.) genomic DNAs using their cDNAs as probes.Oc-1 andArf-2 were found to be closely located to each other on chromosome 1, whileOc-2 andArf-1,both found on chromosome 5, were also located close to each other. The map distances are about 2 cM in both pairs. In each chromosome, theArf locus was located about 27 cM from that of the aldolase gene (Ald-2 in chromosome 1 andAld-1 in chromosome 5). These three genes are in the same order,Ald-Arf-Oc, but in opposite orientations relative to the distal ends of the linkage group. The presence of two sets of three linked genes on chromosomes 1 and 5 strongly suggests a structural similarity of the blocks of the two chromosomes, which probably reflects duplication of the segment. A recent investigation by other workers has shown that these rice blocks correspond to two regions in maize chromosomes 8 and 6, that have previously been shown to share many duplicated nucleotide sequences. It is therefore very likely that the duplication of the region occurred before the divergence of rice and maize during the evolution of the subfamilies of the grasses (Gramineae). In view of a recently discovered possible structural similarity between the small GTP-binding protein superfamily, which includesArf andras proteins, and the cystatin family, the close linkage ofOc andArf loci found in the present study suggests a possible cluster of genes related to the small GTP-binding proteins.
