Abstract The synthesis of α-Fe2O3 supported on high specific surface area SiO2 has been studied. The hydroxylation of phenol to hydroquinone/catechol mixture is described with the help of BET and XRD. The result indicates that the dispersity and specific surface area of support have an important influence on the catalytic activity.
