Summary Poly(Styrene-co-butadiene) can be quantitatively hydrogenated using tris(triphenyl phosphine) ruthenium(II) chloride, RuCl2(PPh3)3 as catalyst. The effect of temperature, pressure and catalyst concentration on both the rate and degree of hydrogenation have been studied. The hydrogenated elastomers have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR and TGA.
