Notes: Abstract The X-ray structural study of the reaction product of equimolar amounts of [Au3Cu2(C2Ph)6]. [{Au(C2Ph)} n ], and [Ag(C2Ph)} n ] revealed two bimetallic anionic [N(PPh3)2] + [Au3Ag2(C2Ph)6]− and [N(PPh3)2]+[Au3Cu2 (C2 Pg)6] — clusters co-crystallized in one asymmetric unit. Each cluster has trigonal bipyramidal geometry with three gold atoms occupying equatorial planes and two silver or copper atoms in the apical positions. Our earlier conclusion based upon spectroscopic characterization describing the product of be above reaction as trimetallic cluster containing three coinage-metals with an overall composition [Au3CuAg(C2Ph)6]−, was erroneous.

Notes: Abstract A fully parametric multistate model is explored for the analysis of animal carcinogenicity experiments in which the time of tumour onset is not known. This model does not require assumptions about tumour lethality or cause of death judgements and can be fitted in the absence of sacrifice data. The model is constructed as a three-state model with simple parametric forms for the transition rates. Maximum likelihood methods are used to estimate the transition rates and different treatment groups are compared using likelihood ratio tests. Selection of an appropriate model and methods to assess the fit of the model are illustrated with data from animal experiments. Comparisons with standard methods are made.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung.
Notes: Summary.  The waste clay produced from refining waste lubricating oil contains about 30% oil. Laboratory research has been carried out on the selective separation of oil by flotation using linear barium alkyl benzene sulfonates as a collector. The behaviour of this collector at the solution-air interface is studied; the critical micelle concentration (CMC), efficiency (Π), and effectiveness (P c20) of the collector are determined. The effects of collector concentration and addition mode are investigated. The liquid-vapour interfacial tension was controlled by methanol. The selectivity achieved by the use of methanol is explained in terms of critical surface tension of floatability and CMC. In addition the physico-chemical characteristics of the recovered oil at optimum conditions are determined.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Stabilitätskonstanten von Komplexen trivalenter Y-, La-, Ce-, Pr-, Sm-, Gd-, Dy-, Ho-, Er- und Yb-Ionen mit einigenthio-Schiffschen Basen wurden potentiometrisch unter Verwendung der vonIrving undRossotti modifiziertenCalvin-Bjerrum-Titrationstechnik bei 25 °C undI=0.1M (NaCl) in 70% (v/v) wäßrigem Ethanol bestimmt.
Notes: Summary The stability constants of complexes of trivalent Y, La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb ions with somethio-Schiff bases have been determined potentiometrically using theCalvin-Bjerrum titration technique as modified byIrving andRossotti at 25 °C and an ionic strength of 0.1M (NaCl) in 70% (v/v) aqueous ethanol. 1:1 and 1:2 complexes are formed and evidenced by conductometric studies. ThepK a values of the SH group were correlated with theHammet constants of substituents. The values of the stability constants are correlated with the atomic numbers of the lanthanides and with the sum of the ionization constants of the ligands.

Notes: Abstract This study was performed to evaluate the ability of cellulolytic fungi and wheat straw incorporation to improve the nodulation, growth and nitrogen status of fenugreek grown in saline soils. NaCl addition to the growth medium at rates of 0.5 and 1% strongly decreased the enzymatic activity of the ten tested moulds. Three of these fungi, Aspergillus niger, Chaetomium globosum and Trichoderma harzianum, showed the highest enzymatic activity. The three moulds have the ability to degrade straw in the presence of NaCl and T. harzianum was the best straw degrader. Inoculating the plants with Rhizobium meliloti strain TAL1373 and cellulolytic fungi slightly promoted nodulation, growth and nitrogen accumulation when plants were grown with the addition of 0.5% NaCl when compared to plants inoculated with R. meliloti alone. However, application of wheat straw with cellulolytic fungi significantly enhanced growth, nodulation and nodule efficiency at 0.5 and 1.0% salinity. The greatest values of nodulation and growth parameters were obtained with a straw-Trichoderma harzianum combination. Cellulolytic fungi and wheat straw increased the concentration of Ca, Mg and K in the shoots and roots of plants. The increase in dry matter production and N content was mainly due to improved N2 fixation reflected by enhanced formation and growth of nodules as well as nitrogenase activity.

Notes: Abstract We obtain a bijection between certain lattice paths and partitions. This implies a proof of polynomial identities conjectured by Melzer. In a limit, these identities reduce to Rogers-Ramanujantype identities for theχ 1,1 (p,p+1) (q) Virasoro characters, conjectured by the Stony Brook group.

Notes: Abstract A special family of partitions occurs in two apparently unrelated contexts: the evaluation of one-dimensional configuration sums of certain RSOS models, and the modular representation theory of symmetric groups or their Hecke algebras Hm. We provide an explanation of this coincidence by showing how the irreducible Hm-modules which remain irreducible under restriction to Hm_1 (Jantzen–Seitz modules) can be determined from the decomposition of a tensor product of representations sln.

Notes: Abstract The APEX project (Active Plasma Experiment) has been launched into a polar orbit in December 1991 and consists of two satellites (IK-25 and MAGION-3), with a distance from ≍ 200 km to 10 000 km between them. The paper deals with short intensive bursts of field-aligned electrons observed during the APEX mission on board the MAGION-3 satellite. These events are predominantly located at the middle geomagnetic latitudes in the day-side magnetosphere. The time–energy structure of these electron bursts is similar to the inverted-V one but the pitch–angle width is less than 10°. Electrons with an energy up to 700 keV are often observed during the events. We analyse the observed events, discuss the possible mechanisms of the particle spreading and the role of the activity of the main satellite as a possible source of these events.
