Description: A study on the seismic potential of the Greater Antilles (15°-24°Lat. N and 67°-85°Lon. W) is presented based on seismologic (historical and instrumental) and tectonic data. A geometric-based classification (magnitude, intensity and depth) of the rupture zones for the earthquakes is given taking into account the associated tectonic structures. Analysis included just spatial and energetic dimensions -not periodicity-as an alternative to prepare maps of maximum magnitude earthquakes. Five levels of magnitude were determined (Ms〈5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 〉8). A classification based on depth was not done due to the lack of data in recorded events. A map of zones prone to events of such magnitude is presented. This material will be helpful fordetermining regional seismogenetic zones and for elaborating seismotectonic maps.

Notes: Abstract Using a148Gd radioactive target and the (p,d), (d,t), and (3He,α) single neutron pick-up reactions we have measured the147Gd mass excess as — 75,366(4) keV, which differs by 139(24) keV from the adopted value of the 1983 mass table. From this result, and from recently reported first transfer-reaction mass determinations for145Eu and146Eu, we have recalculated the masses of nuclei above146Gd from a previous shell model analysis of high-spin states.

Notes: Abstract Two-particle excitations in the two-proton nucleus148Dy populated inβ-decay of 10-s 148Ho(6−) were investigated throughγ-ray measurements following on-line mass separation. Theπh 11/2s1/2 two-proton doublet and the (vh 9/2 s 1 2/−1 )5− neutron particle hole configuration are firmly identified, and theπh 11/2 d 5 2/−1 and πh11/2D3/2 multiplets are also observed. The results suggest dominantπh 11/2vs 1 2/−1 character for the148Ho 6−-isomer.

Notes: Abstract In theN=83 nucleus151Er we observed the isomericE3 transition in conversion electron measurements following on-line mass separation and located its 0.6 s 27/2− isomer at 2.586 MeV. Gamma-ray data establish a 4.7(3)% Gamow-Tellerβ-decay branch proceeding to high-spin states above 2 MeV excitation in151Ho. A weakβ-decay branch of 0.7(3)% was also observed for the 0.5 s 27/2− isomer in the149Dy isotone, and it was established that a similar 27/2− E3-isomer does not occur in153Yb. First results on the151Tm and151Er ground-stateβ-decays are briefly discussed.

Notes: Abstract Non-yrast levels of146Gd have been investigated by in-beamγ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy following the144Sm(α, 2n) reaction at 25.7 MeV, an energy which was determined to provide optimum population of levels above the yrast line. The detailed146Gd level scheme includes twenty-one newly identified levels, many of which can be characterized in terms of specific proton particle-hole configurations. Several twoparticle-twohole states involving the 3− phonon have also been identified.

Notes: Abstract The Q EC values of the $${}^{148}Tb_{2^ - } $$ ground-state and the $${}^{148}Tb_{9^ + } $$ isomer were measured to the 5750(40) keV and 5846(50) keV, respectively, corresponding to a148Tb ground-state mass-excess of ⦓70527(30) keV. The impact on mass calculations near146Gd is discussed.

Description: Phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks) activate protein kinase PKB (also termed Akt), and PI3Kgamma activated by heterotrimeric guanosine triphosphate-binding protein can stimulate mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). Exchange of a putative lipid substrate-binding site generated PI3Kgamma proteins with altered or aborted lipid but retained protein kinase activity. Transiently expressed, PI3Kgamma hybrids exhibited wortmannin-sensitive activation of MAPK, whereas a catalytically inactive PI3Kgamma did not. Membrane-targeted PI3Kgamma constitutively produced phosphatidylinositol 3,4, 3,4,5-trisphosphate and activated PKB but not MAPK. Moreover, stimulation of MAPK in response to lysophosphatidic acid was blocked by catalytically inactive PI3Kgamma but not by hybrid PI3Kgammas. Thus, two major signals emerge from PI3Kgamma: phosphoinositides that target PKB and protein phosphorylation that activates MAPK.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Bondeva, T -- Pirola, L -- Bulgarelli-Leva, G -- Rubio, I -- Wetzker, R -- Wymann, M P -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1998 Oct 9;282(5387):293-6.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Research Unit "Molecular Cell Biology," University of Jena, D-07747 Jena, Germany.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9765155" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: Phosphoinositide-3 kinase activity is implicated in diverse cellular responses triggered by mammalian cell surface receptors and in the regulation of protein sorting in yeast. Receptors with intrinsic and associated tyrosine kinase activity recruit heterodimeric phosphoinositide-3 kinases that consist of p110 catalytic subunits and p85 adaptor molecules containing Src homology 2 (SH2) domains. A phosphoinositide-3 kinase isotype, p110 gamma, was cloned and characterized. The p110 gamma enzyme was activated in vitro by both the alpha and beta gamma subunits of heterotrimeric guanosine triphosphate (GTP)-binding proteins (G proteins) and did not interact with p85. A potential pleckstrin homology domain is located near its amino terminus. The p110 gamma isotype may link signaling through G protein-coupled receptors to the generation of phosphoinositide second messengers phosphorylated in the D-3 position.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Stoyanov, B -- Volinia, S -- Hanck, T -- Rubio, I -- Loubtchenkov, M -- Malek, D -- Stoyanova, S -- Vanhaesebroeck, B -- Dhand, R -- Nurnberg, B -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1995 Aug 4;269(5224):690-3.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Max Planck Research Unit in Growth Factor Signal Transduction, Medical Faculty, University of Jena, Germany.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7624799" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
