Notes: Abstract A new and transparent method for the analysis of recoil distance Doppler shift data is presented, which we call thedifferentialdecay curve method (DDCM). The DDCM can be used for singles as well as for coincidence plunger data and systematic errors can be discovered with it much easier than in the conventional analysis. In addition we propose a modification of the normal plunger which we call the differential plunger. With the differential plunger in principle it is possible to determine lifetimes from quantities measured at only one target to stopper distance. The DDCM was tested with lifetime data for120Xe and128Ba.

Notes: Abstract Two new absolute transition rates are reported for the nucleus144Sm following an (α, α′) Coulomb excitation study. They are B(E3; 3−→ 0+)=(38±3) W.u. and B(E1;3− → 2+)=(2.8±0.4)×10−3 W.u. This large E1 matrix element, along with the previously known B(E1; 1− →+) value support the interpretation of the 1− state in this nucleus as 2-phonon 2+ × 3− excitation. In the frame of the IBM-1 +f-boson model we show the need for a two-body term in the E1 transition operator. Estimates for the strengths of the one and two-body parts of the E1 transition operator are obtained from these experimental data.

Notes: This study provides electrochemical and LCEC determination for three of the most abundant and most important isoflavones, Biochanin A, formononetin, and genistein. Cyclic voltammetry and pH-potential diagrams show that the isoflavones undergo pH-dependent irreversible oxidations. The LCEC determination of the isoflavones has been optimized for mobile phase composition and detection potential. Sub-nanogram detection limits have been achieved.

Notes: Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the oxidation-reduction behavior of a series of novel hexacoordinate silicon(IV) porphyrin complexes. Each (Por)SiX2 [Por = the dianions of the porphyrins: tetrakis(p-tolyl)porphyrin (TTP), tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP), tetrakis(p-trifluoromethylphenyl)porphyrin (TTFP), octaethylporphyrin (OEP), × = F, Cl, O3SCF3] complex undergoes one to two oxidations and one to two reductions, all occurring at the porphyrin ring. No silicon(IV) reduction is observed for any of the porphyrin complexes. The effects of solvent, supporting electrolyte, substituents on the porphyrin ring, axial ligands, certral metal, and ruffling of the porphyrin ring are described.
