    Notes: Summary  This paper presents an M-integral analysis for the microcracked anisotropic composite materials. By using an elementary solution derived for a single finite crack subjected to a concentrated force on crack faces, the problem of strong interacting, arbitrarily oriented and located microcracks in an anisotropic composite materials is reduced to a system of Fredholm integral equations. The crack-tip fracture parameters, such as the stress intensity factors, are evaluated from a numerical solution of the system of integral equations. Its dependence on the coordinate system, calculation, and physical interpretation of the M-integral are discussed in the interaction problem. Finally, a numerical example of the damage evaluation by the M-integral analysis is given.

    Notes: Abstract  In order to understand the genetic basis of the paste viscosity characteristics (RVA profile, which is tested on the Rapid Visco Analyser) of the rice grain, we mapped QTLs for RVA profile parameters using a DH population derived from a cross between an indica variety, Zai-Ye-Qing 8 (ZYQ8), and a japonica variety, Jing-Xi 17 (JX17). Evidence of genotype-by-environment interaction was found by comparing the mapped QTLs between two locations, Hainan (HN) and Hangzhou (HZ). A total of 20 QTLs for six parameters of the RVA profiles were identified at least one location. Only the waxy locus (wx) located on chromosome 6 was detected significantly at both environments for five traits, i.e. hot paste viscosity (HPV), cool paste viscosity (CPV), breakdown viscosity (BDV), consistency viscosity (CSV) and setback viscosity (SBV). This locus explained 19.5%–63.7% of the total variations at both environments, suggesting that the RVA profiles were mainly controlled by the wx gene. HPV, CPV, BDV, CSV and SBV were also controlled by other QTLs whose effects on the respective parameter were detected only in one environment, while for the peak viscosity (PKV), only 2 QTLs, 1 at HN,the other at HZ, were identified. These results indicate that RVA profiles are obviously affected by environment.

    Notes: Abstract In order to enrich the thermokinetic research methods and enlarge the applicable range of the thermokinetic time-parameter method, the integral and differential thermokinetic equations of consecutive first-order reaction have been deduced, and the mathematical models of the time-parameter method for consecutive first-order reactions have been proposed in this paper. The rate constants of two steps can be calculated from the same thermoanalytical curve measured in a batch conduction calorimeter simultaneously with this method. The thermokinetics of saponifications of diester in aqueoushanol solvent has been studied. The experimental results indicate that the time-parameter method for the consecutive first-order reaction is correct.

    Notes: Abstract A novel thermokinetic research method for determination of the rate constant of a reaction taking place in a batch conduction calorimeter under isothermal conditions is proposed: the double-thermoanalytical curve method. The method needs only the characteristic time parameter t m, the peak height Δm at time t m and the peak area a*m after time t m for two thermoanalytical curves measured with different initial concentrations of the reactants: it conveniently calculates the rate constants. The thermokinetics of four reaction systems were studied with this method, and its validity was verified by the experimental results.
