Notes: Abstract: The pre- and post-scission neutron multiplicities have been determined from the fragment-neutron angular-correlation measurements in 19F + 209Bi reaction at bombarding energy of 108 MeV. The average pre-scission neutron multiplicity ( νpre) is significantly larger than that calculated on the basis of the statistical model. The excess in νpre value is used to estimate the dynamical delay in the fusion-fission time scale for the 228U compound system. For a level density parameter a n = A/10 MeV-1 and a n = a f, the fusion-fission dynamical time was established to be 120 ± 10 × 10-21 s. We also observe that νpre is higher for asymmetric mass splits as compared to symmetric mass splits. The enhancement in the νpre for the asymmetric region could be due to strong variations in the fragment mass distribution at different stages in multiple chance fission at medium excitation energies.

Notes: Abstract: Fission fragment mass and energy distributions and their correlations have been measured for the 16O and 19F + 209Bi reactions over a wide range of excitation energies ( E * = 30-50 MeV). It is observed that in the case of 16O + 209Bi reaction, the average total fragment kinetic energy, 〈TKE〉 is nearly independent of the bombarding energy. However, in the case of 19F + 209Bi reaction, the average total kinetic energy of the fission fragments shows a peaking behaviour near the barrier. The variation in 〈TKE〉 at near barrier energies in the 19F + 209Bi system seems to be correlated with corresponding strong variation in the variance of the fragment mass distribution. The present results may imply certain dynamical effects leading to compact scission configurations in the fission of 19F + 209Bi system at near barrier bombarding energies.

Notes: Abstract Let X be a Riemann surface equipped with a projective structure. Let $$\mathcal{L}$$ be a square-root of the holomorphic cotangent bundle K X . Consider the symplectic form on the complement of the zero section of $$\mathcal{L}$$ obtained by pulling back the symplectic form on K X using the map ν ↦ ν⊗2. We show that this symplectic form admits a natural quantization. This quantization also gives a quantization of the complement of the zero section in K X equipped with the natural symplectic form.

Notes: Abstract: A near infrared diode laser spectrometer has been used for measurement of line shapes of the rotational transitions of the ( ) overtone-combination band of acetylene perturbed by oxygen and air. Pressure-broadening coefficients and line strength parameters are extracted from least squares fitting of the spectra with Voigt profiles. A detailed calculation of pressure-broadening coefficients for the self, nitrogen and oxygen broadening cases has been performed by using semi-classical impact theory based on quadrupolar and dispersion interactions. The relative importance of the intermolecular interactions has been investigated and it is found that for these weak interaction cases dispersive terms have a dominant role in line broadening. This is more pronounced for the O2-broadening case. We have included all the non-resonant terms till convergence is achieved. The cutoff parameter b0 of the Anderson procedure has been determined separately for each non-resonant process. In order to include the orientation effect of the molecules at the moment of collision we have considered an average kinetic collision diameter which sets the lower limit of b0. This improves the result considerably and the calculated values are close to the observed results. The J-dependence of the half width is also reported and shows decrease for large J-values.
