    Notes: A family of 2-D and 3-D superparametric curved beam elements are introduced as a special form of general 2-D and 3-D isoparametric continuum elements. Each beam ‘subelement’ is rectangular incross section, however several elements may be offset and overlayed for the analysis of structural members of quite general section properties. A number of examples are presented in order to illustrate the validity and range of application of the element.

    Description: Conceptual design studies are summarized of tandem-rotor helicopter and tilt-rotor aircraft for a short haul transport mission in the 1985 time frame. Vertical takeoff designs of both configurations are discussed, and the impact of external noise criteria on the vehicle designs, performance, and costs are shown. A STOL design for the tilt-rotor configuration is reported, and the effect of removing the vertical takeoff design constraints on the design parameters, fuel economy, and operating cost is discussed.
