Notes:
Secondary ion mass spectrometry is shown to provide mass spectra of choline and its esters from which molecular weights and structures are evident. Structure-spectral correlations are developed using analogies from other forms of mass spectrometry. Spectra can be recorded on metal or paper substrates and individual components can be identified even in complex samples.
