Notes:
.Calcium hydroxide ground-water seepage, highly mineralized, with a pH measured as high as 12.7 has been discovered in the Yarmouk Valley of Jordan. The origin of the seepage is rainfall recharge through over 100 meters of portlandite-rich rock. The portlandite [Ca(OH)2] was formed by thermal metamorphism of calcite due to (spontaneous) combustion of organic-rich marl and limestone. The pH is believed to be the highest ever reported for natural ground water.
