    Notizen: Abstract The studies showed that addition of certain amounts of glycerin and PEG to solution causes corresponding changes in structure and allows obtaining hollow fibres with nanofiltration properties. The parameters for spinning a hollow nanofiltration fibre for purification of part of the wastes from production of viscose fibres were developed based on the data obtained.

    Notizen: Conclusions The structural-strength characteristics of characteristics of cation-exchange chlorosulfonic acid sulfonation of polypropylene fibres containing grafted-on polystyrene have been studied at individual stages of modification and during the storage process. A significant decrease in strength of the cation-exchange fibres in the H- or Na-forms has been detected on storage under conditions which allow oxidative degradation of the copolymer. Reasons for the decrease in strength of sulfonated polypropylene yarns as a function of their moisture and oxygen content have been discussed, as well as the effect of the counterion.

    Notizen: Abstract Illumination of haematoporphyrin derivative in phosphate-buffered solutions causes the formation of a stable photoproduct with new absorption and fluorescence bands. We report data showing photodynamic activity of the photoproduct. Praestomic tumour OJ-5, carcinosarcoma W-256 (mice) and adenocarcinoma Akatol of colon (rats) have been used. Dynamics of tumour growth, life span of animals and morphological changes of tumour tissues have been the main criteria used to show the photoproduct activity.

    Notizen: Some important eye pathologies, such as diabetic proliferative retinopathy and retinal detachment, are strictly connected to different gel vitreus alterations. Therefore there is a strong need in ophthalmology for vitreal substitutes. Until now many synthetic and natural polymers have been tested as vitreal substitutes, but no one has proved to be an ideal vitreal substitute. An ideal vitreal substitute, apart from other characteristics, such as transparency, permanency, biocompatibility, etc. must have a rheological behaviour compatible with the surrounding tissues. The viscoelastic behaviour of different animals' gel vitreus, evaluated by means of steady shear viscosity and small-amplitude oscillatory measurements, is typical of solid-like rubbery gels with dynamic elastic modulus G′ higher than the dynamic viscous modulus G″ in the typical frequency range investigated (0.05–10 Hz). On the other hand the rheological behaviour of current or candidate vitreal substitutes (silicone oil, HPMC, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and chemically-crosslinked hyaluronic acid), analysed with the same technique, is generally different from that of natural vitreus.

    Notizen: Abstract An experimental rabbit bone graft model for the study of bone formation and remodeling around titanium implants is described. A 2.5-cm long radius bone segment served as an onlay graft. Two commercially pure (c.p.) titanium implants were inserted into the bone graft prior to fixation to the inferior border of the mandibular base with osteosynthesis titanium screws. Each animal was operated twice, allowing follow-up periods of 6 weeks on one side and 6 months on the contralateral side. In order to study bone remodeling by means of fluoroscopy the animals received single injections of tetracyclin and alizarine complexone 2 weeks and 1 week, respectively, prior to sacrifice by perfusion fixation with glutaraldehyde. The bone and implants were excized en bloc, postfixed and embedded in plastic resin. Stained and unstained thin ground sections as well as microradiographed thick sections were produced for light microscopic morphometry and fluoroscopy. After 6 weeks, osteoclastic/osteoblastic activity was primarily observed in the graft-recipient contact area and in the intracortical compartment of the graft bone. New bone formation observed on the implant surface originated from the recipient site. The bone formation was evident also in the implant-graft interface. At 6 weeks the average bone fill of the implant threads was 28.4% which increased to 36.4% after 6 months as measured by morphometry. An average of 17.6% bony contact was measured after 6 weeks which increased to 29.7% 6 months after surgery. The graft bone had reduced in size from an average of 39.5% after 6 weeks down to 24.8% after 6 months (P 〈 0.05). It is concluded that the described experimental model can serve as a useful method for the study of implant healing in onlay grafts.

    Notizen: Conclusions -- The application of a positive jet stretch in the range from +70 to +150% in the wet spinning of yarns from high-molecular cellulose diacetate leads to an improvement in their physico-mechanical properties as compared with yarns spun at negative jet stretches. -- Spinning at a jet stretch greater than +70% makes it possible to prepare shrinkage-free thin filaments from high-molecular cellulose diacetate. -- The use of the positive jet stretch makes it possible to create a preorientation in yarns from high-molecular cellulose diacetate; on the basis of this it is possible to develop processes of self-orientation and self-elongation.

    Notizen: Conclusions -- The thermo-oxidative resistance of carbon fibres of the “Ural” type with a final temperature of heat treatment from 600 to 2400°C has been determined in the testing temperature range of 300–900°C in air. -- It has been shown that with increase in the heat-treatment temperature, the oxidative resistance of the material is increased, and the effective activation energy of the oxidation process is raised, which is connected with the structural perfection of the carbon fibre. -- The temperature ranges for use of fibres of the “Ural” grade having various final heat-treatment temperatures have been established.

    Notizen: Abstract Polyester fibre fabricated from poly(ethylene terephthalate) modified by adding 3 wt. % sulfoisophthalic acid Na salt dimethyl ester (Ukanol DM Sip) can be dyed with cationic dyes. The modified polyester fibre had color type, saturation, and fastness close to Nitron fibre, especially when Blue O and Red 5G cationic dyes were used. As a result of pilot industrial tests, it was found that the modified fibre can be dyed with cationic dyes to colors of medium intensity on complete selection of the dye from the bath. Standard polyester fibre cannot be totally dyed in these conditions.

    Notizen: Abstract Treatment of high-molecular-weight cellulose acetate (HCA) with acetone-water mixture (55:45 wt. %) increased the mol. wt. of the polymer and gave solutions a more homogeneous structure. It was shown that films made of HCA had a more ordered structure after this treatment. It is recommended that batches of HCA with a high enough mol. wt. be treated with acetone-water mixture to obtain cellulose hydrate fibre with stable properties.

    Notizen: Conclusions -- The primary adsorption center content of modified ÉLUR-M carbon fibres depends on the conditions of the surface activation process: after electrochemical treatment, more of them are contained than after treatment with ozone. -- In electrochemical treatment of carbon fibres, an optimum zone of intensity of this process is observed, for which the formation of the largest number of active centers is characteristic. -- The number of active centers which are formed on the surface of type LU carbon fibres depends on the final pyrolysis temperature and is caused by structural—chemical processes during carbonization of the material. -- The investigated carbon fibres are ultramicroporous materials with a pore diameter no greater than 6–7 Å and a total pore volume of 0.03–0.09 cm3/g.
