Notes: Presents a process developed by the authors that can be used to help organizational leaders and change agents make alignments between their "espoused" and "existing" organizational cultures. First we present an overview of the theoretical model from which the process is derived, and how we attempt to translate the theory into personal mental models for those involved in the change process. Next, we describe an action-oriented process we call "walkies and talkies" used for analyzing what Schein refers to as artifacts and espoused values. Finally, we present a range of change initiatives that may be used if the culture analysis reveals any misalignments - "tune-ups" are actions that can be taken during the analysis or immediately thereafter. "Re-builds" are intermediate actions that take one to six months to complete. "Replacements" are longer-term interventions requiring significant investments of time and resources, and represent change at its deepest level.

Notes: Exploding expenditure in health care has led to new reimbursement regulations forcing health care providers to conduct their organisations as business concerns. In order to be competitive providers have started to build networks that allow the delivery of interrelated health services in a well-adjusted and uniform manner. However, besides strategic agreement, successful networking requires the support of information systems for efficient cooperation and process management in order to deliver efficient day to day service. With serviceflow management we provide a general concept that answers these needs. Based on modelling process patterns and the exchange of XML-representations of process knowledge and data between service providers, serviceflow management supports organisations in jointly delivering services that cross provider boundaries. Furthermore, it enables flexible handling of processes, which is indispensable in health care. Based on a health care example, we explore the possibilities of serviceflow management and present a Web-based prototype on the basis of our generic, four-layered architecture.

Notes: This paper describes a method for the construction of rational polynomial paths that does not require the apriori specification of either vertices or weights. An algebra of rational paths is developed within which paths with positive weights can be generated from more elementary paths with the same property. Case studies demonstrate that the path algebra can provide a simple means of obtaining exact rational representations of paths defined in non-rational terms.

Notes: Nanocomposites represent a new prospective branch in the huge field of polymer materials science and technology. It has been shown that an overall enhancement of properties of polymers can be achieved under certain conditions by the addition of nanoparticles. To examine the influence of microstructure on the tribological performance of nanocomposites, different ways of compounding were used in this study. It was found that the friction and wear behavior of polymeric nanocomposites under sliding environment was rather sensitive to the dispersion states of the nanoparticles. When the microstructural homogeneity of the nanocomposites was improved, their wear resistance could be increased significantly. The present work demonstrates the importance of TiO2-nanoparticles dispersion in an epoxy resin matrix, on the materials' tribological properties, when sliding against a smooth steel counterpart.

Notes: Fraudulent financial reporting is a matter of grave social and economic concern. The Treadway Commission recommended that the Auditing Standards Board require the use of analytical procedures to improve the detection of fraudulent financial reporting. This is an exploratory study to determine if financial ratios of fraudulent companies differ from those of nonfraudulent companies. Fraudulent firms were identified by examining the SEC's Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Releases issued between 1982 and 1999. The fraudulent firms (n=79) were then matched with nonfraudulent firms on the basis of firm size, time period, and industry. Using this matched-pairs design, ratio analysis for a seven-year period (i.e. the fraud year -/+ 3 years) was conducted on 21 ratios. Overall, 16 ratios were found to be significant. Of these, only three ratios were significant for three time periods. Of the 16 statistically significant ratios, only five were significant during the period prior to the fraud year. Using discriminant analysis, misclassifications for fraud firms ranged from 58 percent to 98 percent. These results provide empirical evidence of the limited ability of financial ratios to detect and/or predict fraudulent financial reporting.

Notes: The present paper gives an overview of the complex mathematical modelling of industrial Czochralski (CZ) and floating-zone (FZ) processes for the growth of large silicon single crystals from melt. Extensive numerical investigations of turbulent Si-melt flows in large diameter CZ crucibles, global thermal calculations in growth facilities and analysis of the influence of various electromagnetic fields on CZ process are presented. For FZ process, a complex system of coupled 2D and 3D mathematical models is presented to show the possibilities of modelling from the calculation of the molten zone shape till the resistivity distribution in the grown crystal. A special developed program code is presented that is used to calculate the temperature field in the crystal including radiation exchange with reflectors, stress field due to thermal expansion and shape of the dislocated zone in the case of dislocation generation. Besides the macroscopic modelling of crystal growth processes, the crystallisation model on the atomistic level in the mean field approximation is also presented.

Notes: The paper describes numerical simulation tools for electromagnetic (EM), hydrodynamic, temperature and concentration fields in industrial Czochralski (CZ) and floating zone (FZ) single silicon crystal growth facilities under the influence of several alternating current (AC) and static DC magnetic fields. Such fields are expected to provide additional means to influence the melt behaviour, especially in the industrial growth of large diameter (200–300?mm) silicon crystals. The simulation tools are based on axisymmetric 2D models for (1) AC and DC magnetic fields in the whole crystal growth facility and (2) hydrodynamics, temperature and mass transport in the melt under the influence of the EM fields. The simulation tools are verified by comparison to temperature and velocity measurements in a laboratory CZ set-up with eutectics InGaSn model melt and to resistivity measurements in grown silicon crystals.
