Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
The systems MeO—NH4CNS—H2O (Me = Zn, Cd or Hg) have been studied by isolating the products obtained under different conditions. From solutions of ammonium thiocyanate saturated with the metal oxide, the diammines Me(CNS)2 · 2 NH3, (A), crystallise out. (NH4)2Zn(CNS)4, (NH4)2Cd(CNS)4 and (NH4)Hg(CNS)3, (B), are obtained when the metal oxide dissolved in ammonium thiocyanate (molar ratio 1:4) is allowed to crystallise. Whereas the A-derivatives hydrolyse in aqueous solutions, the B-complexes are soluble and can be recrystallised. The A-products can be converted into the B-complex salts by dissolving these in ammonium thiocyanate solutions and allowing to crystallise after boiling off ammonia, and the B-complexes into A-products by treating their aqueous solutions with ammonia.
