Notes:
Summary The following plasma enzymes showed increases in activity in mice infected with a virulent strain of toxoplasma (RH-strain): Lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, glutamic oxalacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, sorbitol dehydrogenase, glutamate dehydrogenase, and leucine aminopeptidase. The plasma enzymes alkaline phosphatase and pseudocholinesterase showed decreases below the normal value. Increase in activity of plasma enzymes was also observed in mice infected with a low virulent strain of toxoplasma (DX-strain), but the activity was lower than in mice infected with the virulent strain. Alkaline phosphatase activity decreased also in low virulent infection but pseudocholinesterase activity increased. The analysis of the plasma enzyme distribution-pattern suggests that liver cell damage occurred during virulent and low virulent infection.
