Abstract In this study, a second-moment closure model and an algebraic stress and flux model are used to simulate the turbulent dispersion from an elevated line source located in a turbulent boundary layer. In the modeling of the Reynolds stress equation, several models for the triple velocity correlation are examined by comparing their predicting results with the direct numerical simulation data. Predicted mean and fluctuating correlation quantities of velocity and temperature by the second-moment closure model and the algebraic model are compared with the experimental data. From the comparisons, it is found that the second-moment closure is capable of reproducing the experimental results satisfactorily. However, predictions of the algebraic stress and flux model are quite poor.
