    Description / Table of Contents: On an Alkali Alkaline-Earth Cadmium Oxovanadate: KBaCd2(VO4)(V2O7)Single crystals of KBaCd2(VO4)(V2O7) have been prepared by crystallization from melts. X-ray investigations led to monoclinic symmetry, space group C2h5—P21/n, a = 10.359(3), b = 6.986(2), c = 15.331(3) Å, β = 94.77(2), Z = 4. The hitherto unknown compound represents a new structure type and is one of those few examples containing VO4 and V2O7 groups.
    Notes: Einkristalle von KBaCd2(VO4)(V2O7) wurden durch Kristallisation aus der Schmelze erhalten. Röntgenographische Untersuchungen führten zu monokliner Symmetrie, Raumgruppe C2h5 — P21/n, mit a = 10,359(3), b = 6,986(2), c = 15,331(3), β = 94,77(2)°, Z = 4. Die bisher unbekannte Substanz vertritt einen neuen Strukturtyp und ist eines der wenigen Beispiele mit VO4- und V2O7-Baugruppen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Ba(VO)As2O7 - a Vanadyl-Diarsenate with Layered StructureDark green single crystals of Ba(VO)As2O7 have been prepared by solid state reactions in closed quartz tubes. X-ray investigations led to monoclinic symmetry, space group C2h5 P21/a, a = 6.843(2), b = 14.636(4), c = 7.460(2) Å, β = 116.02(2)°, Z = 4. Ba(VO)As2O7 is nonisotypic to BaV3O8 (= Ba(VO)V2O7). The structure is characterized by ∞2[(VO)As2O7] layers parallel to (110), sandwiching Ba2+ ions. As5+ shows tetrahedral and V4+ square pyramidal coordination with one short V—O bond typical for vanadyl groups.
    Notes: Dunkelgrüne Einkristalle von Ba(VO)As2O7 wurden durch Festkörperreaktionen in geschlossenen Quarzampullen dargestellt. Röntgenographische Untersuchungen führten zu monokliner Symmetrie, Raumgruppe C2h5 P21/a, mit a = 6,843(2), b = 14,636(4), c = 7,460(2) Å, β = 116,02(2)°, Z = 4. Es besteht keine Isotypie zu BaV3O8 (= Ba(VO)V2O7). Die Kristallstruktur zeichnet sich durch ∞2[(VO)As2O7]-Schichten parallel zu (110) aus, die durch Ba2+-Ionen verknüpft werden. As5+ zeigt tetraedrische und V4+ die für Vanadylgruppen typische quadratisch pyramidale Koordination mit einem kurzen V—O-Abstand.

    Description / Table of Contents: Cu4O12 Groups Built of Square Planar CuO4 Polygones in the Barium Vanadyl Oxocuprate(II) Phosphate Ba(VO)Cu4(PO4)4Single crystals of Ba(VO)Cu4(PO4)4 have been prepared by solid state reactions just below the melting points of the reaction mixtures of BaP2O6, Cu3(PO4)2, CuO, V2O5 and V2O3 in evacuated closed quartz glas tubes. The compound crystallizes with tetragonal symmetry, Space group D42—P4212, a = 9.560(2), c = 7.160(2) Å, Z = 2. Special and new features of the crystal structure are to each other isolated Cu4O12 and (VO)(PO4)4 groups. The crystal chemistry of the Cu4O12 groups is discussed with respect to other compounds containing out of plane connected square planar MO4 polygones.
    Notes: Einkristalle von Ba(VO)Cu4(PO4)4 wurden mit Festkörperreaktionen dicht unterhalb des Schmelzpunktes des Reaktionsgemenges aus BaP2O6, Cu3(PO4)2, CuO, V2O5 und V2O3 in geschlossenen, evakuierten Quarzglasampullen dargestellt. Diese Verbindung kristallisiert tetragonal, Raumgruppe D42—P4212, mit a = 9,560(2), c = 7,160(2) Å, Z = 2. Besondere und neue Eigenschaften der Kristallstruktur sind zueinander isolierte Cu4O12- und (VO)(PO4)4-Gruppen. Die Kristallchemie der Cu4O12-Baugruppen wird mit Blick auf andere Verbindungen, die nicht in Ebenen verknüpfte MO4-Polygone aufweisen, diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Ba6Lu4Zn10O22 with [OBa6] OctahedraSingle crystals of Ba6Lu4Zn10O22 have been prepared by high temperature reactions and investigated by X-ray techniques. This compound is isotypic to Ba3In2Zn5O11 and the first member of the Rare Earth elements. Ba6Lu4Zn10O22 crystallizes with cubic symmetry, space group Td4-F43m, a = 13.452(1) Å and Z = 4. Zn2+ shows a tetrahedral, Lu3+ an octahedral and Ba2+ a three-fold capped trigonal prismatic coordination by O2-. The ZnO4 tetrahedra and LuO6 octahedra are forming macro polyhedra of the type Zn10O20 and Lu4O16. A discussion is given for the Ba6O33 and Ba6O42 groups.
    Notes: Mit Hochtemperaturreaktionen wurden Einkristalle von Ba6Lu4Zn10O22 erhalten und röntgenographisch untersucht. Diese Verbindung ist die erste aus der Reihe der Lanthanoide und ist isotyp zu Ba3In2Zn5O11. Ba6Lu4Zn10O22 kristallisiert kubisch in der Raumgruppe Td2-F43m mit a = 13,452(1) Å und Z = 4. Zn2+ ist tetraedrisch, Lu3+ oktaedrisch und Ba2+ dreifach überkappt trigonal prismatisch von O2--Ionen koordiniert. Die ZnO4-Tetraeder und LuO6-Oktaeder sind zu Makropolyedern des Typs Zn10O20 und Lu4O16 verknüpft. Diskutiert werden auch die Baugruppen Ba6O33 und Ba6O42.

    Description / Table of Contents: On a Barium Rare Earth Oxozincate/Platinate(IV): Ba2Eu2ZnPtO8High temperature reactions of BaCO3, ZnO and Eu2O3 in platinum crucibles led to single crystals of Ba2Eu2ZnPtO8. It crystallizes with orthorhombic symmetry, space group D2h16-Pnma, a = 13.390(1), b = 5.764(1), c = 10.387(1) Å, Z = 4 and is isotypic to Ba2Y2CuPtO8. Ba2Eu2ZnPtO8 is characterized by isolated ∞1[ZnPtO8]10- anions formed by ZnO5-pyramids and PtO6-octahedra. The space between the ∞1[ZnPtO8]10- groups is filled by Eu3+ and Ba2+ ions. Relationships to zinc and platinum containing oxometallates are discussed.

Diese Verbindung kristallisiert orthorhombisch in der Raumgruppe D2h16-Pnma, mit a = 13.390(1), b = 5.764(1), c = 10.387(1) Å, Z = 4 und erwies sich als isotyp zu Ba2Y2CuPtO8. Ba2Eu2ZnPtO8 zeichnet sich durch isolierte ∞1[ZnPtO8]10--Anionen aus, die aus ZnO5-Pyramiden und PtO6-Oktaedern aufgebaut sind. In die Hohlräume zwischen den ∞1[ZnPtO8]10--Baugruppen sind die Eu3+- und Ba2+-Ionen eingelagert. Die Verwandtschaft zu zink- und platinhaltigen Oxometallaten wird diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Cadmium in Square Pyramids of Oxygen in the Barium Cadmium Oxovanadate: Ba2Cd3(VO4)2(V2O7)Single crystals of Ba2Cd3(VO4)2(V2O7) have been prepared by crystallization of a melt of BaCO3, CdO and V2O5. It shows orthorhombic symmetry, space group D42—P212121, a = 7.206(2), b = 9.978(1), c = 19.617(3) Å, Z = 4. The crystal structure is characterized by (VO4)3- and (V2O7)4- groups, CdO6 octahedra, BaO12 and BaO9 polyhedra and with respect to Cd containing oxides unusual square pyramids of O2- around Cd2+. The observed 1∞[CdO4] zickzack chains are connected by VO4 tetrahedra, V2O7 double tetrahedra and CdO5 pyramids, forming a tunnel structure along [100]. The tunnels are filled by barium.
    Notes: Einkristalle von Ba2Cd3(VO4)2(V2O7) wurden durch Kristallisation aus einer Schmelze von BaCO3, CdO und V2O5 dargestellt. Sie zeigen orthorhombische Symmetrie, Raumgruppe D42—P212121 mit a = 7,206(2), b = 9,978(1), c = 19,617(3) Å, Z = 4. Die Kristallstruktur zeichnet sich durch VO4-Tetraeder, V2O7-Tetraederdoppel, CdO6-Oktaeder, BaO12- und BaO9-Polyeder und für Cd unübliche tetragonale Pyramiden aus. Die beobachteten 1∞[CdO4]-Zick-zack-Ketten werden durch VO4-Tetraeder, V2O7-Tetraederdoppel und CdO5-Pyramiden unter Ausbildung einer längs [100] orientierten Tunnelstruktur vernetzt. Die Tunnel sind mit Ba2+ aufgefüllt.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Crystal Chemistry of Oxozincate-Platinates and Oxozincates of the Composition Ba17Tm16Zn8Pt4O57 and Ba5Tm8Zn4O21High temperature reactions of BaCO3, ZnO and Tm2O3 in platinum crucibles led to single crystals of Ba17Tm16Zn8Pt4O57 (I) and Ba5Tm8Zn4O21 (II). Platinum in (I) came from the crucible. The single crystals have been investigated by X-ray methods. (I) and (II) crystallize with tetragonal symmetry, space group C4h5-I4/m with (I): a = 22.758(1) and c = 5.684(1) Å, Z = 2. (II): a = 13.652(1) and c = 5.664(1) Å, Z = 2. Both compounds show the same O2--polyhedra around Zn2+ (tetragonal pyramidal), Tm3+ (single capped trigonal prisms) and Ba2+ (BaO10 polyhedra). Compound (I) additionally shows single capped distorted tetragonal BaO9 antiprisms and PtO6 octahedra. The crystal chemistry will be discussed.
    Notes: Durch Hochtemperaturreaktionen von BaCO3, ZnO und Tm2O3 in Platintiegeln wurden Einkristalle der Zusammensetzung Ba17Tm16Zn8Pt4O57 (I) und Ba5Tm8Zn4O21 (II) erhalten und röntgenographisch untersucht. Das Platin in Substanz (I) stammt aus dem Tiegelmaterial. (I) und (II) kristallisieren mit tetragonaler Symmetrie in der Raumgruppe C4h5-I4/m, mit den Gitterkonstanten (I): a = 22.758(1) und c = 5.684(1) Å, Z = 2; (II): a = 13.652(1) und c = 5.664(1) Å, Z = 2. Beide Verbindungen weisen die gleiche Sauerstoffkoordination von Zn2+ (tetragonal pyramidal), Tm3+ (einfach überkappt trigonal-prismatisch) und Ba2+ (BaO10-Polyeder) auf. Substanz (I) zeigt zusätzlich einfach überkappte tetragonale verzerrte BaO9-Antiprismen und PtO6-Oktaeder. Die Kristallchemie wird diskutiert.
