Notes:
Summary A method is given for the X-ray fluorescence analysis, in which by means of simple mathematics, and by taking into consideration polychromatic excitation, that part of the excitation of the fluorescence lines can be calculated, which is generated by the fluorescent radiation of sample elements. This is achieved by the combination of experimental results and theoretical calculations, and demonstrated with samples of Co-Ni mixtures where the CoKα 1/2 line is not only excited by the spectrum of the X-ray tube, but also by the NiKβ radiation which is generated inside the sample. The part of the intensity of the CoKα 1/2 line which is excited by the NiKβ radiation amounts to about 8% for samples with 50% of Ni and to about 20% for 95% of Ni.
