Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The well known Santonian conglomerates from the area north of the Harz Mountains contain holes due to leached dolomitic pebbles of Kimmeridgian age, in which well preserved casts of “worm”-burrows have been observed. In smaller pebbles - caused by the lack of space — they were burrowed in narrow windings resembling the Serpulid genusGlomerula. However, their mode of winding differs from that of these Serpulids: The convex arches made by the boring organism must be regarded as a behavioural response when approaching the surface of the pebbles. In the loops of the burrows often a “Spreite” is found, but it is also observed in the convex windings and even parallel to the straight cylindrical burrows. That is in contradiction to the conventional definition of the “Spreite”. The burrows which may belong to the Polychaetes are described asLapispecus cuniculus n. g. n. sp. Other rare burrows have been identified asDodecaceria (?) sp.

Notes: Summary The Cauchy problemu t =f(x, t, u, u x , u xx ),u(x, o)=ϕ(x),xεR, is treated with the longitudinal method of lines. Existence, uniqueness, monotonicity and convergence properties of the line method approximations are investigated under the classical assumption that ϕ satisfies an inequality |ϕ(x)|〈=conste Bx 2 . We obtain generalizations of the works of Kamynin [4], who got similar results in the case of the one dimensional heat equation when ϕ is allowed to grow likee Bx 2−δ, δ〉0, and of Walter [11], who proved convergence in the case of nonlinear parabolic differential equations under the growth condition |ϕ(x)|〈=conste B |x|

Notes: Abstract A series of approximate LCAO-SCF methods intermediate between the INDO and the NDDO schemes is proposed. The suggestion is based upon the decomposition of integrals in multipole-multipole type interactions.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Experimental results of thermoluminescence of different polymethacrylates, polyisobutylene and polybutadiene are reported. These results are compared with data obtained by other measuring methods. It has been found that in case of polymethacrylates the glow peak is associated with the rotational movement of the methyl groups attached directly to the main chains. In case of polyisobutylene and polybutadiene a peak is observed in the glass transition range. It can be shown that for polymethacrylates the glow peak may be described by theArrbenius equation and for the other materials by theWLF equation.

Notes: Summary The rhizosphere microflora of redcedar was found to have a higher percentage of calcium silicate-solubilizing rhizosphere bacteria than the rhizosphere microflora of white pine of similar age growing in the same locality under identical conditions. Though the species composition of the silicatesolubilizing microbial population varied considerably from winter to spring, the redcedar roots had more silicate-solubilizers than the white pine roots inboth seasons. Since redcedar is known to have a higher calcium content than white pine, these results indicate that calcium accumulation by redcedar and white pine is strongly influenced by the rate at which calcium is released from soil minerals by the weathering action of the trees' rhizosphere micro-organisms. A symbiotic relationship between the trees and the microflora is suggested.
