Notes: [Auszug] IN NATURE of February 21, Prof. Wood, referring to my letter of January 17, says that the effects observed were probably due to disturbance of the density gradient of the sodium vapour caused by “local heating by the wire.” I am afraid that in my letter I cannot have described the experimental ...

Notes: [Auszug] DR. STARK (NATURE, vol. lxxiii., pp. 78, 389, 533) has given a theory, based on his canal-ray experiments, according to which spectrum series are due to positive ions. It occurred to me that its applicability to thermal emission might be tested by experiments on the ionisation accompanying the ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN reply to Mr. Campbell's letter of April 30, it must suffice to point out that my letter of March 5 was limited to infinite spectrum series and to luminous gases. This seemed to me at the time of writing obvious from the context, as well as from the express reference to the finiteness of the ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE electrical theory of dispersion is based on the hypotheses (1) that electric waves are due to motions of electric charges, and waves of light in particular to vibrations of charges inside the atom; and (2) that these vibrations are governed by linear equations. On this basis we obtain the ...

Description / Table of Contents: Fatigue Life Calculation on the Basis of Fatigue FunctionsSpecific two-step tests constitute the basis of the fatigue functions determination. They consider the fatigue state reached during preloading in the action on the following stress step. The fatigue functions control the sequence of the fatigue life calculation at multi-step and random loadings.

Description / Table of Contents: Effects of Loading Sequences and Size of Repeated Stress Block of Loads on Fatigue Life Calculated using Fatigue FunctionsIt is well-known that collective form, stress intensity and loading sequence of individual stresses as well as size of repeated stress blocks can influence fatigue life, significantly. The basic variant of the consecutive Wöhler curve concept will permit these effects to be involved into fatigue life computation. The paper presented will demonstrate that fatigue life computations using fatigue functions reflect the loading sequence effect with multilevel loading precisely and provide reliable fatigue life data. Effects of size of repeated stress block and loading sequence on fatigue life as observed with block program tests can be reproduced using the new computation method.

Description / Table of Contents: Trimethylsilylmethoxy Derivatives of C, Si, Ge, SnSeveral model substance of the formula Me3Si—CH2—O—MR3 [M = C, Si, Ge, Sn] were prepared. The bond type within the atom group Si—CH2—O—M was investigated by measurements of basicity and by i.r. and 1H-n.m.r. spectra.

Description / Table of Contents: Silanoles. XV. Alkoxy Silanoles  -  Partial Esters of Silicic AcidMethods for preparation of trialkoxy silanoles and dialkoxy silandioles are described. Condition for this are steric effective RO groups hindering both, OH condensation and RO solvolysis.Relative acidity of trialkoxy silanoles is measured by potentiometric titration in pyridine or pyridine/isopropanol mixture.

Description / Table of Contents: Silanols. XIV. I. R. Spectroscopic Investigation on Halogenomethyl-, Benzyl-, and α-Halogenobenzyl-dimethylsilanolsPosition of vOH band and the shift Δ\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \tilde \nu $\end{document} of this band at association with diethylether have been measured for silanols of the type X(CH3)2SiOH with X = CH3, CH2Cl, CH2Br, CH2J, CHCl2, CH2C6H5, CHClC6H5, CHBrC6H5.For both \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \tilde \nu $\end{document}OH and Δ\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \tilde \nu $\end{document} and linear correlations with σ* constants of substituents X have been found. These correlations are compared with results of analog investigations on triarylsilanols [2]. From band shapes result informations on weak intramolecular H-bonding between OH group and halogeno resp. phenyl substituents.
Phenyl-Substituenten.
