Notes: Abstract An improved form of the radiative-Auger-cascade model is presented in which the shake-off contribution is incorporated into the model in a mathematically consistent way, avoiding the problem of double counting. The higher charge state distribution found in the photoionization experiment of the 1s electron in Ne is shown to be predominantly due to the shake-off effect during the formation of the 1s hole, and not during the cascade decays as previously assumed. This shake-off contribution is estimated in the sudden approximation, in terms of overlaps between the neutral and singly ionized ions. An excellent agreement with experiment is obtained in the case of Ne+ with 1s hole. The details of the X-ray and Auger spectra are also predicted by the new model both for the Ne and Mg ions. The shake-off effect on the resonant processes in general is discussed.

Notes: Abstract The improved model of radiative-Auger-cascade with shake-off effect is applied to calculate the final charge state distribution and the X-ray and Auger electron spectra emitted during the cascade decay of Ar, with the initial 1s hole created by the synchrotron irradiation. The discrepancy in the predicted charge distribution without the shake-off effect is removed. It was found that the discrepancy was caused mainly by the neglect of the shake-off effect during the productin stage of the 1s hole, and not by the shake-off effect during the decay of the 1s hole. The X-ray and Auger spectra predicted by the improved model are compared with that without the shake-off. The charge distributions resulting from a 2s or 2p initial hole are also presented.

Description: Author(s): Omar Gamel and Daniel F. V. James There is a well-known mathematical similarity between two-dimensional classical polarization optics and two-level quantum systems, where the Poincaré and Bloch spheres are identical mathematical structures. This analogy implies that the classical degree of polarization and quantum purity are in fact... [Phys. Rev. A 86, 033830] Published Mon Sep 24, 2012

Description: Author(s): Omar El Gawhary and Sergio Severini In this work we present an extensive study of the scaling symmetry typical of a paraxial wave theory. In particular, by means of a Lagrangian approach we derive the conservation law and the corresponding generalized charge associated with the scale invariance symmetry. In general, such a conserved c... [Phys. Rev. A 87, 023811] Published Wed Feb 13, 2013

Description: Author(s): Vassilis E. Lembessis, Anwar Al Rsheed, Omar M. Aldossary, and Zbigniew Ficek We determine how a system composed of two nonidentical two-level atoms with different resonance frequencies and different damping rates could work as a nanoantenna for controlled mode switching and light routing. We calculate the angular distribution of the emitted field detected in a far-field zone... [Phys. Rev. A 88, 053814] Published Tue Nov 12, 2013

Description: Author(s): Michael Tomka, Omar El Araby, Mikhail Pletyukhov, and Vladimir Gritsev We study the spectrum of a generalized Rabi model in which co- and counter-rotating terms have different coupling strengths. It is also equivalent to the model of a two-dimensional electron gas in a magnetic field with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings. Like in the case of the Rabi model, ... [Phys. Rev.
