    Description: Two aberrant species of Opiinae are described and illustrated from Vietnam, of which one is included into a new genus (Canalopius gen. n.; type species: C. periscopus sp. n.). The other species, Xynobius chrysops sp. n. belongs to an aberrant group of species near X. maculipennis (Enderlein, 1912).

    Description: The genus Stantonia Ashmead, 1904 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Orgilinae) is reviewed for Vietnam, China, Japan, and Russia. Six new species of the genus Stantonia are described and illustrated: Stantonia brevicaudata van Achterberg, sp. n., S. dickyyui van Achterberg & Long, sp. n., S. granulata Long & van Achterberg, sp. n., S. robustifemur van Achterberg & Long, sp. n., S. stilpnosoma Long & van Achterberg, sp. n., and S. vietnamica van Achterberg, sp. n. A new subgenus (Planitonia subg. n.: type species Stantonia robustifemur van Achterberg & Long, sp. n.) is proposed for the species with a flat clypeus and face, and reduced vein r-m of the fore wing. Three species are newly recorded from Vietnam: Stantonia gracilis van Achterberg, 1987, S. sumatrana Enderlein, 1908, and S. tianmushana Chen, He & Ma, 2004. A key to species of Stantonia from Vietnam, China, Russia, and Japan is provided.

    Description: A new genus is split off the genus Craspedolcus Enderlein, 1920 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Braconinae): Maculibracon gen. n. with type species Maculibracon abruptus sp. n. The genus Craspedolcus Enderlein sensu stricto is redefined, a key to both genera and to their species in China, Thailand and Vietnam is included. Craspedolcus obscuriventris Enderlein, 1920, (syn. n.) is a new synonym of C. vagatus (Smith, 1858), as Ipobracon maculicosta Enderlein, 1920 and Iphiaulax bhotanensis Cameron, 1907 of Maculibracon simlaensis (Cameron, 1899), comb. n. The genus Craspedolcus is recorded from China for the first time with two species: Craspedolcus fraternus Enderlein, 1920, and C. politus sp. n. The genus Maculibracon is represented by three species in China: M. simlaensis (Cameron, 1899), comb. n. (also present in Vietnam), M. hei sp. n. and M. luteonervis sp. n. and a fourth species is described from Thailand: M. abruptus sp. n. Hybogaster zebripterae Wang & Chen, 2008, from China (Fujian) is transferred to Iphiaulax Foerster, 1863, (comb. n.) and the following names are new combinations in Maculibracon gen. n.: Bracon lepcha Cameron, 1899; B. phaedo Cameron, 1899; B. simlaensis Cameron, 1899; Iphiaulax bhotanensis Cameron, 1907; I. laertius Cameron, 1903; I. leptopterus Cameron, 1903; I. lineaticarinatus Cameron, 1907; Ipobracon lissotomus Roman, 1914; I. maculicosta Enderlein, 1920 and I. pallidicornis Roman, 1914. Craspedolcus montezuma (Cameron, 1887) is provisionally transferred to the genus Digonogastra Viereck, 1912.

    Description: The species of the genus Euagathis Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1900 (including Balcemena Cameron, 1903; Braconidae: Agathidinae) from China and northern Vietnam are revised and keyed. Twelve species are recognised, of which six are new: Euagathis argentosa spec. nov. and E. gracilitarsis spec. nov. from Yunnan (China), E. maxichora spec. nov. and E. mayunae spec. nov. from Fujian (China), E. parallela spec. nov. and E. robusta spec. nov. from Tonkin (Vietnam), the latter also from Yunnan. The following are new synonyms: Euagathis chinensis Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1902, E. asiatica Fahringer, 1937, E. semenovi Shestakov, 1940, and E. relativa Bhat & Gupta, 1977, of E. ophippium (Cameron, 1899); E. nigritarsis (Cameron, 1899), E. hongkongensis Fullaway, 1919, E. nigrithorax Bhat & Gupta, 1977, E. varuni Bhat & Gupta, 1977, and E. transcarinata Bhat & Gupta, 1977, of E. forticarinata (Cameron, 1899); E. albiventris Enderlein, 1920, E. sikkimensis Enderlein, 1920 and E. chinensis (Bhat & Gupta, 1977) of E. borneoensis Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1902; E. melanocera (Cameron, 1899), E. japonica Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1902, E. semiflavus Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1908, E. horniana Enderlein, 1920, E. formosana Enderlein, 1920, E. formosana var. obscurior Enderlein, 1920, E. nigrifrons Enderlein, 1920, E. tricarinata Enderlein, 1920, of E. chinensis (Holmgren, 1868). The genus Balcemena Cameron, 1903, is synonymised with Euagathis Sz\xc3\xa9pligeti, 1900, consequently, Euagathis ruficollis (Cameron, 1902; not Cameron, 1899) is replaced by E. rufonigra Enderlein, 1920.

    Description: According to field observations, electromagnetic (EM) signals accompanying seismic waves can be recorded. The orders of magnitude of observed coseismic electric and magnetic signals associated with earthquakes are usually around 1 to 10 1 mV km –1 and 10 –2 to 1 nT, respectively. In this paper, we carry out numerical simulation of coseismic EM signals associated with seismic waves due to electrokinetic effect and compare with field observations. The seismic source is represented by a finite fault measuring 15 x 9 km 2 with a max slip displacement 1.5 m, corresponding to a M w 5.9 earthquake. While using the EM surface boundary condition of continuous horizontal EM components, the magnetic signals only accompany the late-arriving S waves at receiver near the ground surface. This is obviously different from field observations. Thus, we adopt another EM surface boundary condition which assumes the ground surface carries surface charge. For the used half-space model, a surface-charge density magnitude | Q sc | in excess of 10 –4 C m –2 is sufficient to make horizontal magnetic components clearly show up at the whole time duration of seismic waves. When | Q sc | increases, the contribution of surface-charge density to coseismic EM signals becomes more and more dominant comparing with that of the seismically induced streaming-current. We estimate the Q sc expected at the Earth's surface might be a value between –5 x 10 –4 and –0.1 C m –2 by the comparison between numerical results and field observations. The vertical magnetic signals only accompany the late-arriving seismic waves, because they are theoretically only induced by SH wave. The field observation results of vertical magnetic signals may be resulted from the scattering effect or the seismic dynamo effect. We conclude that electrokinetic effect combined with surface-charge assumption is one possible generation mechanism of the observed coseismic EM signals.

    Description: In this work, we carry out numerical simulations of the seismo-electromagnetic fields associated with a fault in a porous medium by considering the electrokinetic effect. In addition to porous materials, the adopted layered models comprise solid materials in which the electrokinetic effect is inoperative. First, sensitivity study is performed for the evanescent and direct radiation electromagnetic (EM) waves generated by a double couple point source embedded in a porous half-space below a solid half-space. Results suggest that both the evanescent and direct radiation EM waves are sensitive to some medium properties, for example porosity, salinity, fluid viscosity, and conductivity of solid layer. Then, adopting an eight-layer half-space model, we simulate the seismic and EM wavefields generated by the rupture process of a finite fault. It is shown that the electrokinetic effect is able to generate observable corupture EM signals, but the observability depends on some factors such as the epicentral distance, properties of the medium where the fault is located, and local activity levels of EM noise. Time synchronization coseismic EM signals are recorded when the receiver is close to the ground water level but located in a solid medium. In addition to the post-seismic electric field, our results also show the post-seismic magnetic field which has not been identified in previous simulation studies on the electrokinetic effect. The generation of the post-seismic magnetic field probably requires a sufficiently strong medium heterogeneity or fluid-pressure gradient.

    Description: Adopting a model with two half-spaces that consist of solid and porous materials, we numerically investigate the seismoelectric conversion at the solid–porous interface. First, the wave fields in a low-porosity two-layer model are compared with those in a homogeneous full-space model. The consistency of seismic waves is a validation of our program. We are interested in the quasi-coseismic electromagnetic (EM) signals recorded in the solid area near the interface because they seemingly accompany seismic waves. Then, further numerical simulations on an ordinary two-layer model are conducted. On the basis of time slice snapshots and theoretical analysis, we determine that quasi-coseismic EM signals are essentially non-coseismic EM fields, which include radiation and evanescent EM waves. Evanescent EM waves are induced by the seismic waves that arrive at the interface with the incident angle greater than the critical angle. These waves decay faster than radiation EM waves when moving away from the interface. In the porous layer, evanescent EM waves can hardly be recognized unless they are separated from coseismic EM signals. This finding can be the reason why evanescent EM waves have not been identified in previous seismoelectric studies. Awareness of the fact that seismoelectric conversion at an interface can generate evanescent and EM waves is likely to result in a comprehensive understanding and improved interpretation of the seismoelectric coupling phenomenon.
