    Description: We examine light diphoton signals from extended Higgs sectors possessing (approximate) fermiophobia with Standard Model (SM) fermions as well as custodial symmetry. This class of Higgs sectors can be realized in various beyond the SM scenarios and is able to evade many experimental limits, even at light masses, which are otherwise strongly constraining. Below the WW threshold, the most robust probes of the neutral component are di and multi-photon searches. Utilizing the dominant Drell-Yan Higgs pair production mechanism and combining it with updated LHC diphoton data, we derive robust upper bounds on the allowed branching ratio for masses between 45 − 160 GeV. Furthermore, masses ≲ 110 GeV are ruled out if the coupling to photons is dominated by W boson loops. We then examine two simple ways to evade these bounds via cancellations between different loop contributions or by introducing decays into an invisible sector. This also opens up the possibility of future LHC diphoton signals from a light hidden Higgs sector. As explicit realizations, we consider the Georgi-Machacek (GM) and Supersymmetric GM (SGM) models which contain custodial (degenerate) Higgs bosons with suppressed couplings to SM fermions and, in the SGM model, a (neutralino) LSP. We also breifly examine the recent ∼ 3σ CMS diphoton excess at ∼ 95 GeV.

    Description: We show that the well known Georgi-Machacek (GM) model can be realized as a limit of the recently constructed Supersymmetric Custodial Higgs Triplet Model (SCTM) which in general contains a significantly more complex scalar spectrum. We dub this limit of the SCTM, which gives a weakly coupled origin for the GM model at the electroweak scale, the Supersymmetric GM (SGM) model. We derive a mapping between the SGM and GM models using it to show how a supersymmetric origin implies constraints on the Higgs potential in conventional GM model constructions which would generically not be present. We then perform a simplified phenomenological study of diphoton and ZZ signals for a pair of benchmark scenarios to illustrate under what circumstances the GM model can mimic the SGM model and when they should be easily distinguishable.

    Notes: Abstract In the green alga Ankistrodesmus braunii, all the activities associated with the nitrate reductase complex (i.e., NAD(P)H-nitrate reductase, NAD(P)H-cytochrome c reductase and FMNH2-or MVH-nitrate reductase) are nutritionally repressed by ammonia or methylamine. Besides, ammonia or methylamine promote in vivo the reversible inactivation of nitrate reductase, but not of NAD(P)H-cytochrome c reductase. Subsequent removal of the inactivating agent from the medium causes reactivation of the inactive enzyme. Menadione has a striking stimulation on the in vivo reactivation of the inactive enzyme. The nitrate reductase activities, but not the diaphorase activity, can be inactivated in vitro by preincubating a partially purified enzyme preparation with NADH or NADPH. ADP, in the presence of Mg2+, presents a cooperative effect with NADH in the in vitro inactivation of nitrate reductase. This effect appears to be maximum at a concentration of ADP equimolecular with that of NADH.

    Notes: Abstract When one tries to compute large orders in the 1/N series “à la Lipatov” a complicated non-linear equation for the instanton is found in ø4 or non-linear sigma models. We solve here this equation in the one-dimensional case (quantum mechanics) by inverse scattering techniques. From the instanton solutions we obtain theK th order of the 1/N perturbation theory up to 0(K −1) for the 0(N) symmetric anharmonic oscillator and up to a factor 0(K 0) for a non-symmetric model. In the symmetric case we agree with results recently obtained in quantum mechanics by Hikami and Brézin following a different procedure. For the non-symmetric anharmonic oscillator we believe our formulae are new.

    Notes: Abstract The roles of molybdenum and iron in the enzymes of the assimilatory nitrate-reducing system from Azotobacter chroococcum have been investigated. 1. By adding 99Mo-molybdate to a cell culture of A. chroococcum with nitrate as the nitrogen source, it has been possible to inccrporate the radioactive metal into a purified preparation of the enzyme nitrare reductase. 2. When 185W-tungstate was supplied to a culture medium lacking added molybdate, a 185W-labelled nitrate reductase preparation with negligible activity could be obtained. This in vivo incorporation of tungsten was competitively hindered by molybdenum. 3. The cellular level of nitrite reductase activity gradually increased in response to the addition of increasing amounts of iron to the culture medium. Under the same conditions, the level of nitrate reductase activity was not affected.

    Notes: Abstract The Neurospora crassa assimilatory NAD(P)H-nitrite reductase complex has associated a NAD(P)H-diaphorase activity. 1. This NAD(P)H-diaphorase activity can use either mammalian cytochrome c, 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol, ferricyanide, or menadione as electron acceptor from the reduced pyridine nucleotides, and requires flavin adenine dinucleotide for maximal activity. 2. It is inhibited by p-hydroxymercuribenzoate, 1 μM, and it is unaffected by cyanide, sulfite, or arsenite at concentrations which completely inhibit the NAD(P)H-nitrite reductase activity. 3. Flavin adenine dinucleotide specifically protects the NAD(P)H-diaphorase activities, but not the NAD(P)H-nitrite reductase activities, against thermal inactivation. 4. In vitro preincubation of the Neurospora crassa nitrite reductase complex with reduced pyridine nucleotides plus flavin adenine dinucleotide inactivates the NAD(P)H-nitrite reductase activities, but does not affect to the NAD(P)H-diaphorase activities, indicating that this nitrite reductase inactivation occurs in the part of the enzyme that contain the nitrite reducing center.

    Notes: Summary The analysis of the individual parts of the Triticum aestivum L. kernel yields a total of 11 peroxidase isozymes: m, n, a, c, d1, d, d2, e, f, g and h (in order from faster to slower migration). Isozymes a, c and d are found in the endosperm (Ed) and seed coats (C), while m, n, d1, d2, e, f, g and h are peculiar to the embryo and scutellum (E + S). The use of the nullitetrasomic and ditellosomic series of ‘Chinese Spring’ wheat allows peroxidase isozymes to be associated with specific chromosome arms. Isozymes a, c and d (Ed) are associated with chromosome arms 7DS, 4BL and 7AS; whereas isozymes m, d2, e and f are associated with chromosome arms 3DS, 3BL, 3DL and 3DL, respecitvely. Thus, the E + S isozymes are associated with homoeology group 3 and the Ed isozymes with homoeology groups 7 (a and d isozymes) or 4 (c isozymes).

    Notes: Abstract Tensile tests were performed on boron fibres and the resulting fracture stressesσ f recorded. The fracture surfaces were investigated by SEM, with emphasis on the type of flaw nucleating the fracture. It was found that pre-existing, so-called proximate voids, in the boron mantle near the core-mantle interface, have transverse irregularities, large enough to create stress concentrations. The radial extensions, 2c, of fracture initiating proximate voids in mirror zones were measured from the micrographs. The obtained 2cσ f relation was found to be in good agreement with the Griffith criterion for brittle fracture. In addition, the experimental log 2c-log σf plot gives some information on the value of the surface energy,γ, of boron.
