Notes:
We construct a spring-block model for the long-term description of faults whose dynamics are such that during seismic slip more energy is liberated by seismic radiation than by frictional dissipation. We show that if this is the case the system may be represented by means of a set of coupled saw-tooth oscillators. We then discuss the specific case of two coupled faults of this type, which may be completely solved for any combination of parameters through a decoupling technique developed by the authors. The analytical solution of this problem is presented in the appendices of this article.
