Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
The effect of ozone exposure on several polymers is investigated. From the chemical point of view the consequence of ozone attack on several polybutadienes in solution and as solid polymers is studied. Ozonization of polybutadiene solutions causes a strong decay in the intrinsic viscosity. The behavior of solid polymers was investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance. In the second part of the paper the influence of ozone on Solprene 406, a SBS-elastomer, and a rubber modified polystyrene on the stress strain behavior is studied. In both cases ozone causes a strong increase of the magnitude of stress relaxation. The dependence of the stress relaxation on the deformation, on the ozone concentration, and on the temperature is described.
